One of my favorite things about Mastodon is clicking through to people's profiles and exploring their personal blogs.

It's rare to find someone without a site, and it's always a delight to discover their obsessions, their diverse interests, and the unique ways they've designed their own spaces.

When will this be over? I just want everyone to be curious about the world through the lens of science and art. I just want everyone to enjoy nature. I just want everyone to fall in love. I just want everyone to look up and be mesmerized by the moon.

Need more pictures of #plushtodon to improve mental health (⁣#blåhaj will also do).

I'm so excited for them to be back in stock so I can finally get one 😭

Instead of writing tests, I wrote a script to report on missing tests in my project so I can write them later. It’s a specific flavor of procrastination.

So, @exquisitecorp sent me this graphic design book A Co-Program For Graphic Design, in it were a few pages about Hilbert, Peano, and briefly mentioning Formulario Mathematico, a book written in Giuseppe's own simplified Latin. His work has been on my mind lately as I try to design a kind of standard notation to use across all my notes hoping to standardize multiple topic-specific notations into just one style.

Regardless, as I was clumsily trailing Peano's footsteps, I came across this video[1], giving me the idea to try and translate some of the Rejoice examples into Peano's Latino Sine Flexione, as a kind of.. homage? Zoom forward a few days, a hundred hours of Latin youtube, nearly breaking Arch installing Latin dictionaries, I might have gone beyond just translating examples..

Since #GIT was designed, among other things, to manage #Linux development, that’s actually an indirect compliment to the Linux-Creator too!
😊
Still, I prefer #Mercurial.

Still, I prefer #Fossil fossil-scm.org and fossil-scm.org/home/doc/trunk/…

Git provides file versioning services, whereas Fossil adds an integrated wiki, ticketing & bug tracking, embedded documentation, tech notes, a forum, and a chat, all within a single nicely-designed web UI, protected by an access control system. These capabilities are available for Git as 3rd-party add-ons, but with Fossil they are integrated to the point that it approximates "GitHub-in-a-box."

Normally I'd be more excited about a moon mission, but I'd vastly prefer if any other nation was doing it. Can't really care about it when the US is bombing civilian bridges in Iran and then bombing the first responders (and as of today, apparently announcing genocide. Not their first time, I guess).

maybe, when the astronauts land, they will be greeted by a different president.
One can still hope.

I like the fact that the signs in Cornwall say Beware The Gulls. As opposed to Beware Of The Gulls. Beware The Gulls sounds more ominous, more chilling, more 'these creatures are demonic, you are in grave peril'.

It kills me that an xopp file with a handwritten version of an essay is 900 times the size of a .txt file of the same.

Before the printing press, scribes were contracted to handwrite items. They were paid on a per-inch basis, and spelling wasn't standardized yet, so apparently they made words longer so they could have increased pay. This is part of the reason why words like "friend" aren't spelled "frend" anymore, or why some words like "bell" and "shall" have double Ls, and head and season have "ea" instead of just "e".

So, Giuseppe Peano, the Italian Mathematician, had the idea of releasing most of his work in this #conlang called "Latin Sine Flexione", basically Latin but everything is at the infinitive, no genders, no conjugation.

As a sort of homage to his work, and considering he was looking for the substrate of mathematical shapes with his ideas, and I've been haphazardly following his footsteps lately with this notation project called Rejoice(REJOIRE!! no I'm kidding, it'll keep the name rejoice in LSF), I've started to write a version of the documentation for this notation in Latin Sine Flexione.

After about 3 hours, I present to you:

Rejoice es concatenative lingua de programmatione ubi dato es codificato ut sacco que compone per multiplicatione. Stato de programma es "sacco" de re non-ordinate. Per exemplo, strix/[felis^2] significa: consumere duo felis, addere uno strix.

Strix is owl, and felis is cat, btw. I don't really know how I'd write multiset, so I am just leaning into the bag thing.

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Only just came across this stuff you're doing recently and it looks fascinating. I wonder how you implement bags in the background. Since you use the / operator to remove or replace things I was wondering if perhaps each bag is a bignum with entities inside the sets (sorry, bags) represented by distinct prime numbers, and the bag as a whole being the product of all members...

It's an idea I toyed with a long time ago (for a different application) and I'd be delighted to find out that someone else might be using the same thing.

Again, it's all just about seeing the / sign and jumping to (probably unwarranted) conclusions.

in reply to muddle

@muddle in theory that's how it COULD work, but it's implemented in a 8-bit stack machine so I had to get creative.

Internally, it looks more like tropical calculus.

Gas Pumps Are Acting Strange… And People Are Starting To Notice

Gas prices are already high—but now people are noticing something even more concerning at the pump. From gas pumps charging without dispensing fuel, to nozzles leaking while the total keeps climbing, to customers being overcharged compared to posted prices… something isn’t adding up.

In this video, we’re reacting to viral clips of strange gas station behavior, including pump malfunctions, billing issues, and growing concerns about fuel quality and accuracy. Are these just isolated glitches, or is something bigger going on?

If you’ve experienced anything like this at a gas station, you’re not alone… and you might want to start paying closer attention.
