i don't buy the argument equating the the artist(whatever that is) and the doctor. Nor do I believe we should reify these roles and values. As a young Canadian artist (cough) many moons ago, I soon realised I was not interested in that economy. And so, art is my private refuge, and service something that takes many forms. Rarely are service and 'work', economical, the same. And something about Adorno.

It was a treat to chat with my brilliant co-panelists Lindsay Patterson, Clifford Johnson & Ann Merchant all about science & storytelling at AAAS.

Layne Kyung shared these incredible & colorful notes/art from our session. #science #art #media

Sorry I missed this symposium at the #Denver #AAASmtg. If there’s interest, I can send the transcript of a similar event during the 2019 #Tennessee #STEAM Festival; “From Plato to #CRISPR : Communicating #Science through Story-telling.” #STEAMfest #SciComm

~100 more Starlink v1 satellites will be burning up in the upper atmosphere in the next 6 months, bringing up the total number of de-orbited Starlink satellites to ~500 out of 6000 launched
api.starlink.com/public-files/…

De-orbiting satellites by burning them up did work when the volume of satellites was small, but already 10% of aerosol particules in the stratosphere contain aluminum/other metals.
The problem is only going to get worse with the launch of megaconstellations pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas…

The next beta version of #Signal will be version 7.0.0.
There's a good reason for the round number. This will be the first version where usernames and phone number privacy are available outside of the staging environment.
From this version on, you'll be able to talk to people on Signal without revealing your phone number, and also, you may use Signal without revealing to people who have your number saved that you do.
This is huge.

I’m not an astronomer nor any kind of celestial scientist but the gravity forces must be crazy weird in that type of galaxy.

If you run a Mastodon server, especially if it's small and only lightly moderated, I would STRONGLY suggest enabling 'Approval required for sign up'. It means that your server is MUCH less likely to become the next source of spam in this wave we're seeing.

One of the people at the community learning centre insisted on taking a photo of me on Thursday with my mostly completed painting. It still needs a signature, but at least in this picture I'm holding it. So, everyone knows who nearly broke her wrists painting such fine detail on those penguins! This is entitled "Tux and Sprinkles". Any guesses on which is Tux and which Sprinkles?

You deserve it.. ;D
in reply to Muse

Thank you @clarice overhere and @Corinne Howell! Lavender handspa...hmmm! ❤

My current catchphrase is: It's not realism! It's finely detailed impressionism!

I keep slipping into the extra work because I love textures, and I love bringing extra volume to my characters.

I mean let's just admit it, we've all run partial upgrades at some point.

Sometimes I need software now, and don't have time to wait for a full upgrade.

That said yeah, it probably shouldn't be in the book

@Da_Boom There's nothing wrong with doing pacman -S, pacman -Sy is the issue and shouldn't be run

Thinking about multi-server aggregations and recommendation systems on decentralized online social networks like the #Fediverse.

Here we see an exploit: someone has created hundreds of fake accounts on different servers to spam the same tag.

@ntnsndr Thanks to the server admins and mods handling this stuff. 🫡

It feels like at a technical level maybe new accounts shouldn't contribute to tending topics.
