@d6 It's always been like that! One aspect of privateness is that internet randomers can't create issues or pull requests since they cannot log in, but they are free to browse if the repos are public. Perhaps that was where the confusion crept in.
I'm totally fine with extra human traffic, it'll be nice to reduce the percentage that is slopscraping 
personally i really value the ability to set up a public, read-only mirrors of my repos. i need to replicate more of git.phial.org/d6 over there.
