Join the #OpenMP Users Monthly Telecon Friday at noon EDT/6 pm Central European time for a presentation by John Tramm of Argonne National Laboratory.

The topic is:
"OpenMP in OpenMC: Experiences with Monte Carlo Particle Transport on Intel Corporation, NVIDIA, and AMD GPUs".

OpenMC is an open source Monte Carlo neutral particle transport application that has recently been ported to #gpus using the OpenMP target offloading model.

This is neat on many dimensions:

1. Sapphire Rapids HBM nodes
2. Intel GPU partition
3. Cornelis 400G #OmniPath
4. Quote from Katie Antypas in her new role as #NSF ACI director

Delivery this autumn, production in early 2024.

Not as big as previous Stampedes (or Frontera or Horizon!) but still decidedly Intel-based.

#co2monitoring in #HPC #highperformancecomputing will allow running big science with a lower #co2footprint . Getting insight is a first step and one within your programming experience (am in an exam phase, i can't give it the attention it deserves, also if you see this you rock too).
Please be friendly and constructive. I don't wanna hug this to death

Hello friends! Are you good at #monitoring and #observability, and *also* interested in #supercomputers, #AI, or #HPC?

My team at NVIDIA is hiring a “Senior HPC Telemetry Engineer”, which is a fancy way of saying we want someone who can help understand what our supercomputers are doing!

Happy to answer questions or chat about the team. We’re doing some pretty cool work.

Similar to my last post…

My team at NVIDIA is working on building some of the fastest #supercomputers in the world, but we always need help squeezing the best performance out of our systems.

We’re #hiring a Senior Performance Engineer to help get the best perf from our hardware, and work closely with app and framework teams to make it easier for everyone else to do it too.

This is a nicely written, informative, and useful post that unfortunately once again completely ignores or at best tangentially touches upon the needs that Red Hat is missing for running academic #HPC clusters. I’d love an opportunity to discuss this in more detail with someone not in the sales side of Red Hat, preferably in management. Also this misses the fact that most OS distributions are freely available and companies make their money on higher level products.

#LLVM #Clang 17 now defaults to #OpenMP 5.1

This does *nothing* for those who need stable-branch distros, for example, in #HPC settings. Or do you want to rebuild all the software in your stack any time an upstream unstable-branch dependency changes?

The ENES community has just published a public draft of their "infrastructure strategy for climate modelling", which covers everything from hpc, to software and people.

We're very keen on comments. Details on my blog here:https://www.bnlawrence.net/science/2023/06/infrastructure-strategy/

Please boost, we need feedback!

here's a *cough* preprint about CI in high performance computing and how it's all a load of balls - I'm mentioned in the acknowledgements section mostly, I thinkm for saying its all a load of balls and being rephrased by the authors.

Ian Cutress’ keynote talk on Emerging Technologies and Silicon for #HPC that was recorded at the 8th EasyBuild User Meeting in London a couple of weeks ago is doing really well on his TechTechPotato YouTube channel, and rightfully so: it’s a great overview of current and coming-soon tech for scientific computing:

Have you looked at The Carpentries projects? In particular there is an #HPC carpentry effort going on now organized by @tkphd and others to develop lessons for the HPC community. Here’s a link to their most recent co-working meeting. Perhaps a similar effort could be a good approach for the RSE community.

It looks like #Excelero has re-emerged after being acquired by #NVIDIA! A partially hyperconverged #Lustre-on-Excelero-on-DGX is the high-performance file solution for NVIDIA DGX Cloud in #OCI.

It looks a bit complicated; parts of Lustre are running on DGX, and other parts run on HA pairs of storage nodes. No mention of the data management or resilience models though. Wonder what happens when a DGX drops a GPU and the node fails.

Recently I found that quite a few of my #Twitter and #Mastodon followers are working in high-performance #computing (HPC). At first I was surprised because I’m not a #HPC person, even if I love high performance computers. Then I realized that there are quite few overlaps, and one of my best friends is also deeply involved in HPC. My work, #logging, is also a fundamental part of HPC environments.
