This new editorial in Nature is a bit naive. There *is* a pivot penalty, and it has lots of negative side effects. However, you cannot simply wish it away. The incentive schemes in academia are products of business model of modern, tuition/endowment-hungry university system. So long as visibility drives revenue, researchers will be incentivized to maximize visibility over scientific impact.
Researchers who ‘pivot’ into new fields should not be given a citation penalty

Why the heck is it so complicated to get a native Version management.
Never ever bother with overwriting or change a file again.

And listen, before anyone flames me, the office apps are objectively superior in terms of ergonomics and advanced feature completeness. And they don't run well in Crossover or wine. I hate MS as much as the next linux user but i know robust software when i use it.
Alternatively an open office alternative could become amazing but nobody seems to be in a rush to hit feature parity.

I miss,
- the possibility to have auto cached network files
- the possibility to have some files or directory permanently in sync
I hate it that a linux laptop even with VPN is not able to stay connected to a network folder especialy if you work with hibernation.
