Would you be interested in #Xubuntu having an official presence here on Mastodon?

You can already find Xubuntu on Twitter and Facebook:

(Admittedly, both tend to be neglected)

Maybe @Skunnyk can bring #Xfce to Mastodon as well...

Pauli Murray was a lawyer, scholar, activist, poet & priest. A civil rights leader, their activism set the stage for the desegregation of US schools.

Murray co-founded the National Organization for Women. Ruth Bader Ginsburg credited them for the idea that the 14th amendment could win equality for women.

Murray changed #history & led battles for racial & gender equality. With too many accomplishments to list, we should celebrate their contributions. paulimurraycenter.com/who-is-pโ€ฆ #HistoryRemix

"In reality, โ€˜precolonialโ€™ Africa never existed. It is a figment of the imagination of scholars, analysts, political types, for whom Africa is a homogeneous place that they need not think too hard about, much less explain to audiences."

"Perhaps the most damning aspect of the deployment of the โ€˜precolonial Africaโ€™ epithet is its implication that we donโ€™t take the history of Africa seriously."

Symbol of the Thunderbolt from Ancient Elis, Greece (pre) 471 BCE. Perhaps the origin of the Fleur-de-lis, The Flower of Elis?

Curiously, being more abstract, split the Thunderbolt apart and common symbols reveal themselves: that of Hathor and the Bee.

I'm involved with a great charity called WindEmpowerment (windempowerment.org/), a global federation of organizations locally manufacturing small wind turbines for sustainable rural electrification, mostly based on the Piggott turbine design.

We're overhauling our website and communication vectors, and we may open a fedi/mastodon account. Does anyone have recommendations for a relevant server? Thanks!

in reply to Kirk Smith

I believe the preferred behaviour is to start your own as to not use unpaid community labour. I'm trying to find clients who would like help with setting up organizational servers. If you're interested we should set up a short call.

That being said there may be a server that is willing to host an organization's account. Maybe an admin will respond and it will be mutually beneficial.

in reply to Danny (he/they)

@danwchan
I should say we have no paid staff (we are also unpaid community labor ๐Ÿ˜…), and there's not a lot of budget for (I'll say) experimental things: our managed Nextcloud hosting is ~โ‚ฌ50/year and that is a core service for us that provides a lot of value, so it'd have to cost less than that. We have technical expertise on our team but no time to manage server admin as we all have full-time jobs.

Maybe though, we could justify hosting if our member orgs could have their own accounts on it

A bit speculative, but it seems plausible: Are some of these coins (see link below) depicting a stone upon a curule?

Based on the dates, and considering also how they show the image of Cybele, it would appear to depict the meteoritic stone of Cybele placed upon a curule. (As Falconet explains, this stone was small and could be held in the hands.)

In 2007, a small group of concerned citizens co-founded the nonpartisan ngo Science Debate. The goal was simple: Science Debate asked presidential candidates to answer science policy questions related to issues like competitiveness, space exploration, & pandemic response.

Why? If candidates addressed #science issues, they should be more likely to arrive in office with a plan for how to deal with challenges related to health, tech & the environment. open.substack.com/pub/sheril/pโ€ฆ #politics

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Thanks for this information and link. I had a further look at:
sciencedebate.org/sciencedebatโ€ฆ

and was not one whit surprised by the bland and utterly non-committal response by the ultimate winner of the 2016 election.

Still - it is a good and worthy fight that you are engaged in.

in reply to Paul van Gulick

@paulvg While I formally stepped away from my role with Science Debate last year, I continue to believe itโ€™s very important. (Youโ€™ll find more about it in Unscientific America).

Ultimately, it should be the expectation rather then exception for elected leaders to address science policy.
