a fantastic song that Iโ€™ll never be able to get my friends into because some of the lyrics sound like โ€œcagar caralhoโ€ which in Brazil means โ€œto poop dicksโ€

I'm listening #Heilung since 2018 and it's one of the best #FolkMetal bands now. An unique sound and #music. I love it.

My new #podcast Before the Future Came isn't going to be about #StarTrek until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, so we've pivoted to non-ST utopian #scifi, starting with Nnedi Okorafor's novella Binti: beforethefuture.space/podcast/โ€ฆ

Binti is an amazing work. ๐Ÿคฉ We had a lot of fun digging into the themes (violence & empathy, magic in scifi, and ostracization) and geeking about genre-specific stuff we loved. ๐Ÿ™

(The ep transcript is running a bit behind, but should be up within the next couple of days!)

@sj I've used otter.ai for several years. It lets you keep custom vocab and name lists for its initial pass on recordings and does a good job matching speakers and handling Southern accents. My biggest nitpick is that it's a memory hog in the browser. If I have my usual 80+ tabs open, I can't have it and Mastodon both open while I'm cleaning up a transcript. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I do pay for it on a yearly basis and am grandfathered in on an older plan, so the cost/value ratio might be different for a new user.

@SJ

Released the "Generation 2" of Usernetes: Rootless Kubernetes

Gen2 was rewritten from scratch for simplification. [1/2]

in reply to Akihiro Suda

Gen2 containerizes kubeadm inside Rootless Docker to eliminate the painful "hard way" scripts of Gen1.
This is similar to rootless `kind` and minikube, but Usernetes Gen2 supports creating a cluster with multiple hosts using Flannel (VXLAN). [2/2]

The Voyager 1 space probe was launched from Cape Canaveral #OTD in 1977, a few weeks after Voyager 2.

Now it's the most distant human-made object โ€“ about 14.96 billion miles from Earth, racing away from us at 38,000 miles per hour with respect to the Sun.

Images: NASA/KSC/JPL

#otd
in reply to Robert McNees

So even though Voyager 1 has a long way to go, I wouldn't fault anyone for describing it as being at "the edge of the solar system."

Itโ€™s the fastest and most distant thing humans have ever made, itโ€™s okay to sound a little dramatic.

in reply to Robert McNees

When we receive data from Voyager 1, weโ€™re picking up a signal sent about 22 hours and 19 minutes.

Of all the objects humans have hurled into space, Voyager 1 is the closest to being one full light-day away from us.

The speed of light is 3 x 10โธ m/s, and Voyager 1 is traveling at about 38,000 mph with respect to the Sun. A few conversions turns that into about 0.5 light-hours per year. So we're a little over three years away from Voyager 1 being one full light-day away from us.

I just recently played through all the Broken Sword titles with one if my kids. We kind of stalled out on BS5, the one that was Kickstarted. Not because it wasn't good, but because of a change in computers. Should migrate the save files over or restart BS 5 so we're ready for Parsifal's Years.

I don't know if you've done a video on this, but it might be interesting to have a deep dive on the history of Gnome controversies and where its perception as a toxic development team comes from. Cassidy's experience from as far back as 2011 provides a counterpoint to that assertion, so it makes me wonder how true it ever was.
