in reply to Thomas

Falls es hilft: nicht eingeloggt sieht alles normal aus.

@vinzv

Space is understood by the machine.
Love is felt by the animal.

You are both the animal and the machine. You need to satisfy both.

It is that simple.

oh noes @ntnsndr ioo.coop directory is down 🙁

You already know that e.g. baserow.io/ is already on @cloudron, right?

Could the data be moved to that? 🤔

I've got spare capacity on my Cloudron server if that helps? 🙂

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@medlab @platformcoop cool, thanks! Presumably everything that was in ioo.coop is now in the @platformcoop directory? or is it just a subsection? thanks again!
in reply to Josef Davies-Coates

I'm honestly not sure. I initially found their directory too hard to work with, so I didn't keep up with its development. In retrospect, I wish we had continued maintaining IoO.

I opened up comments on @kottke this week and some threads are poppin' already, including this one where people are sharing (after some prodding) links to what they think the best music videos are. kottke.org/23/10/the-50-greate…

@Girl Of The Sea This song has a beautiful sense of poignancy. The singer doesn't have to sound polished for this to go right to the heart. I used to give this link to my singers for the musicals I would write. It would help them feel more self-confident and encourage them to focus on their acting as part of their singing.

Ooh, I'm super excited about two new articles that I just encountered:

"Divesting from Big Tech: Alternative Possibilities for Research and Futuring in Social Computing" by @cyberlyra @natematias dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.1145/358…

"Mastodon Rules: Characterizing Formal Rules on Popular
Mastodon Instances" by Matthew N. Nicholson @bkeegan @cfiesler dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3584931…

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@Nathan Schneider I'd love to have a look at the second document, but ACM is very unfriendly towards well-secured desktop browsers. I ended up IP-blocked due to what was perceived as non-standard behaviour which probably means that I haven't just loaded the page and then the document exactly once.

That said, I guess the author of that document steps right into the same trap as everyone else who does something related to the #Fediverse without being an avid, well-informed user of many months, namely assume that the Fediverse is only #Mastodon. Granted, the document is about, quote, "Popular Mastodon Instances", but it might also mention interaction with the rest of the Fediverse and do as if this whole rest of the Fediverse is only Mastodon. This is more than just a technicality: Some aspects about Mastodon rules do not translate to all Fediverse projects, others do not translate to anything that is not Mastodon.

in reply to Jupiter Rowland

@jupiter_rowland Oh that is weird. I know the feeling, I get into trouble all the time for my basic security practices.

I know these authors are very well-informed (for instance, one is actively advocating a fediverse strategy on our campus). My reading is just that they are focusing on one platform for the sake of simplicity. They write, "Mastodon instances constitute part of the broader Fediverse," which I don't think claims that Mastodon constitutes the entire fediverse at all.

this is a really interesting paper:
Deep learning-guided discovery of an antibiotic targeting Acinetobacter baumannii

But the abstract already reveals the secret sauce: it's not the model, it's screening 7500 molecules in vitro and then training a model based on that. It's always the data, not the particular model architecture, that enables breakthroughs.

Good morning everyone!

I installed the latest version of the activitypub plugin for wordpress and I noticed a clear improvement compared to the versions from a few months ago.

Among other things (I don't know if it is an improvement of Wordpress or Friendica), a Friendica account can finally follow a Wordpress blog through activitypub, whereas until some time ago it was unable to force the follow, but could only follow its feed RSS.

That said, with wordpress, I can also follow some profiles, but unfortunately there is a problem with Friendica. In fact, although I can follow profiles of Mastodon, Lemmy, Misskey and Pleroma, I cannot follow the Friendica profile.

When I try to connect, I get the following error:

stream_socket_client(): Unable to connect to ssl://poliverso.org:443 (Connection timed out) (https://poliverso.org/profile/informapirata)

Could any of you help me understand if I'm doing something wrong?

PS: I didn't ask ActivityPub support for Wordpress, since the error seems to only affect Friendica

@Friendica Support

in reply to Signor Amministratore ⁂

I get strange results when trying to access poliverso.org. I'm fairly sure that in order to follow people you need the "well-known" URL to work, e.g. friendica.exon.name/.well-know… But poliverse.org/.well-known/host… gives me an error. I think there may be something wrong with your web server config.

Also, as far as I understand it, the Wordpress plugin you link allows Friendica (and Mastodon etc) users to follow your Wordpress profile, but not the reverse. There are other Wordpress plugins that allow that, perhaps you have one of those enabled too?

in reply to Matthew Exon

@Matthew Exon

> I think there may be something wrong with your web server config.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I'll try to do some checking!

> Also, as far as I understand it, the Wordpress plugin you link allows Friendica (and Mastodon etc) users to follow your Wordpress profile, but not the reverse. There are other Wordpress plugins that allow that, perhaps you have one of those enabled too?

Yes, the plugin in question is "Friends" developed by Alex Kirk, but recommended by Automattic itself and Pfefferle. This plugin allows you to "follow" users of the fediverse to allow in a granular way some access rights and visibility to the flow generated by Wordpress

in reply to Matthew Exon

@Matthew Exon ah, anyway the site is called poliverso with an O, and not poliverse with an E... 😅
in reply to Signor Amministratore ⁂

Argh, my mistake, sorry! Yes, that's working fine.

I was asking if you had "Friends" installed because I do have the ActivityPub plugin on my test wordpress instances, but not Friends. I might be able to play with that later today.

friendica VPS setup on ubuntu 22.04 LTS

@Friendica Support

Hi,
I'm working on my first #friendica #VPS installation, here you'll find my initial post about general thoughts like what distro to use, size and costs.
I'm using the tutorial "creating a friendica server - ubuntu" by @Hank G ☑️.

As of now I'm doing well in the process and want to start this post to document differences and questions while installing the server.

This server is going to host an already existing friendica node I have to move from another hosting provider. That means that for example the DB doesn't have to be created from scratch but moved and other smaller details.

I will try to address the different steps of installation in answers to this post and appreciate help, ideas and observations.

I'm doing this from a #linux desktop environment from the console but there shouldn't be differences if you want to do this from a #windows machine.
