How about something mellow for #ProgTuesday? This album from AVKRVST, a band name I have no idea how to prounounce, is just what your ears need.

I just saw them at #ArcTanGent the other week. The "v" is a "u", so you'd pronounce it something like Awkrust. The Pale Moon also has an excellent music video to accompany it.

Turns out ecologists and entomologists around the world have been warning about declining insect numbers for years. The culprits are climate change, habitat loss, light pollution, intensive farming, pesticide and fertiliser use. But it’s a struggle to get people to act.

It’s not just about bees and butterflies, the poster children of the pollinator world. Other, less photogenic pollinators such as hoverflies, moths, wasps, soldier beetles and earwigs are also showing declines. Several of these species don’t just pollinate. They also eat the pest insects that ruin crops.

Already, in the apple and pear orchards of south-west China, depleted populations of pollinators have forced farmers to hand-pollinate their trees, carrying pots of pollen and paintbrushes with which to individually pollinate every flower. If it sounds labour-intensive and time-consuming, that’s because it is.

Wii U emulator Cemu 2.1 out now with AppImage and Flatpak support for Linux gamingonlinux.com/2024/08/wii-…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@mingling@mastodon.social I noticed that Emu Deck and Emulation Station defaulted to the Linux version of Cemu on Steam Deck. The performance of Breath of the Wild (Wii U) was still better with the Windows/Proton version of Cemu so changed it for that game.

To give an idea of size and distance the moon is currently 384400Km away and Saturn 1297 million Km away making it 3375 times further away than the moon and therefore 3375 times smaller than it would be at the same distance as the moon.

Saturn is huge!

THIS is a GERMAN GROUP?! (actually, I like this cover!)

@Michael Keukert I suspect his show was something like the work of Shari Lewis. Her puppet Lambchops was most famous, but she also had a puppet character called Charlie Horse.

A lot better than the shot I got of Saturn partly occluded by the moon. Granted, it was taken by holding a Sony Mavica camera to the eyepiece of a $79 3" reflector in 2011.

(Yes, that was the one with the floppy discs)

But the real question is "how?". My understanding is that the thrusters are not reliable and the helium leaks are both internal and external. And if the leaks are external that can interfere with thrust and guidance.

*EVERY* map projection is a compromise.

The usual Mercator is angle-true, thus great for navigating with clock and sextant. It was never intended to be area-true.

Other map projections are true to distances, xor true to form, xor true to area - or a compromise with other constraints.

e.g. radio operators use radial projections centered on their place - great for rotating a directional antenna, useless for pretty much anything else.

Choose your map for your purpose.
