Can I get a sanity check on something?
If you're reviewing a new handheld gaming device like the Legion Go S, would you benchmark it against other handhelds like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, or, say, a bunch of expensive gaming laptops instead?

Because that's what PC World did, and I'm equal parts baffled and angry.

in reply to Jason Evangelho 🐧🎒

i saw that windows central didn't include the steam deck in their's either, sure it's not a windows device....but it's literally the most popular

@gamingonlinux Wow. And you have to assume they have one.
As far as this review goes, I mean, at least pick ONE handheld to compare it against that isn't twice as expensive, doesn't have a dedicated GPU, and doesn't consume 5x the power? 😒
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

@gamingonlinux even if you want to raise objections about not a Windows device, you absolutely CAN rock a Deck as a Windows device. When it launched, a lot of people did exactly that, reflexively, before everybody figured out "this thing is actually great the way it ships."

Trump’s #NIH challenges the model that underlies U.S. scientific dominance
The 80-year-old partnership between the federal government and research institutions has made the U.S. the leader in scientific innovation. But now a proposed funding cut threatens the arrangement.
Although it is framed as a simple cost-cutting move, it is part of aggressive actions from the administration that have shaken the scientific and medical establishment.

So maddening that the rest of the White House press corps doesn't boycott all press briefings until The Associated Press is allowed back in the room.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I've used Fedora a bit since Arch became too tedious for my extremely occasionally usage and the one thing that stood out to me as being legit bad was the packaging landscape. Felt like everything I wanted to do required a different repo and the whole process was completely opaque at the UI "package manager" level.

Feels very much a situation based on what suits the devs rather than users. And this seems to be the same!

"The goal for Christians should be not the elimination of poverty—Jesus said that is futile, anyway—but actually to encourage more of it."

My latest in America Magazine: americamagazine.org/politics-s…

in reply to Nathan Schneider

I'm uncomfortable with the words in this article, but there's a passage in the New Testament (Act 4: 32-35) that says that the apostles gave everything but the essentials to live together. If that's what poverty is, then we're in the same boat. Chosen poverty (simplicity, frugality, collectivity?) is very different from subjected poverty.
