One of the creepiest photos Iโ€™ve taken in #NYC. A thick black fog covered the Hudson River on my home the other night โ€” many of us stopped to look and discussed a possible alien invasion. ๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿ›ธ

My reaction to meeting aliens would most likely be: โ€œOh, thank goddess youโ€™re finally here! Now save me and all my friends from all these assholes!โ€ Who knew that one day weโ€™d wake up in the original version of โ€œInvasion of the Body-Snatchersโ€?
What a world! Iโ€™m melting! etc.

Imagine a piece of tissue paper.

Coat it with cyanotype chemicals.

Fold it into an origami crane.

Let it be a crane for a while, in any place with a bit of light. Ignore it, play with it, whatever.

After a while, unfold it. Develop.

You'll get an image.

The image is the memory of it's experience as an origami crane.

Repeat. Every crane's experience - and hence every image - will be unique.

Here's 4 out of the >750 I've made so far.

I have some ecosystem questions, aimed toward trying to see how I can help contribute.

Maybe boost this to help us all learn?

* What gatherings or online spaces are connecting fediverse devs and admins? What is needed?

* Where can one find people developing products and business models to support the ecosystem? Any pitch opportunities out there?

* How can we help to make the economies of the fediverse more explicit, rather than waiting for VCs to swoop in and commercialize for us?

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@christina
It is often said FOSS alternatives would lack accessible UX and aesthetics. There might be potential for a platform coop of developers and admins dedicated to further develop features that would fill this gap.
in reply to Industriebotaniker

@Paul030 @christina Sounds fun! I guess the issue in my view is that the problem with FOSS and UX is that FOSS projects can't afford to pay for good UX work. I'm not sure a co-op would fix that, since the workers would still want to be paid.
in reply to Nathan Schneider

@Paul030 @christina I guess it could solve the issue of having zero access to UX designers? If a platform cooperative provides shared access to a single (or a few) UX designers who receive monetary support via coop membership fees, that could be useful -- in that they could look at each project, and address common problems over time by e.g. producing monthly reports.
in reply to Nathan Schneider

thereโ€™s growing overlap with web3 / dao builder community ir seems (eg kernel, farcaster, lens, gitcoin).

i think weโ€™ll see an explosion of new decentralized / โ€œcozy webโ€ social tools soon when the crypto is abstracted away. business models are tbd but likely token-based. i think ethereum community is closest to answers for community-based public goods funding.

@Gargron I guess a few things:
1. Let users discover posts by metadata - for example ISBN, star rating, etc.
2. Format the post in a specific way to people can see the data.
3. Let robots or other apps read the metadata to do something with it.

I'm not quite sure *what*. This isn't a serious Pull Request (yet) ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I just found my read of the day:

It makes so much sense to me that differentiation pathways in T cells(and biological processes i general) are much more flexible than currently depicted in literature! Why would a cell be fully stuck in one state with no way to return? HIgh time for studies like this to correct our current view on #immunology #memory #T cell #differentiation #gene regulation. So i look forward to read it!
