Older distros:

$ make love
Don't know how to make love
stop

$ man where is your wife?
man: wife not found

Newer Debian based ones:

$ sudo apt-get install sl
$ sl

$ sudo apt-get install fortune
$ /use/games/fortune

Approximately every system where I have root access has /usr/games/fortune installed, usually aliased to "ok" at the command line.

These are the beautiful spore-producing structures of plasmodial slime molds. Which is your favourite colour?

Originally considered Fungi, these Myxomycetes are now classed as Amoebozoans - single celled organisms with thousands of nuclei... not animals or fungi but something else entirely!

It seems like the page doesn't have any OpenGraph tags. That's how you can control what the preview looks like on Mastodon. Seems like you're using WordPress, they have a plugin for that, I think.

According to one source Linux hits over 6% desktop user share gamingonlinux.com/2025/07/acco…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

in the western world 5% to 6% seems about right, as you point out in the article there is more than one source putting it in that range.
Statista also has a dataset (statista.com/statistics/268237…) putting Linux at 3.7% globally in march with more than 7% unknown.
I'm curious how it will change in October with Win 10 finally being EOL and MS nagging people to throw away perfectly good desktops and laptops.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

in reply to Eugen Rochko

in reply to Eugen Rochko

82-year old Chilean, granted permanent legal residency (political asylum) by the US in 1987.

Lost his “green card”. While getting it replaced, ICE snatched him. Family couldn’t find out where he was, thought he was dead. Then they were told he was dead (anonymously? - unclear)

Instead, he had been deported. Not to Chile. To Guatemala. He’s now in a hospital there.

His fate depends on the whims of the people who sent him, people immune to the law.

The Royal Society

"Gregor Mendel, the pioneer of modern genetics, was born #OnThisDay in 1822. His experiments with pea plants established the genetic inheritance of certain traits, and he coined the terms 'recessive' and 'dominant' to describe them."

You have been warned yet again, the US cannot be trusted...

Microsoft, under oath, admits the possibility that EU‑hosted data can be accessed by US agencies without any notifications

In sworn French‑Senate testimony, Microsoft’s legal chief for France(M. Anton Carniaux) conceded he cannot guarantee that data on French citizens stored wholly in EU Microsoft datacenters is safe from U.S. silent access and acknowledged that French or any EU authorities might not even be notified if access occurs.

Delivered under oath, this statement is an official legal recognition of the silent‑access risk inherent in relying on Microsoft’s infrastructure.

@Jodi Dry food only! Ouch! We had to take one cat off dry food because it caused bladder stones. Within one month he was in so much less pain. However, he was also REALLY grumpy about not having his beloved hard food. In the end I would give him a few pieces of kibble once a day as a treat.
