I used to love #Cadbury but I agree it's gone waxy and greasy.

If I'm having the calorie and fat load of chocolate I'm having something without #palmoil in it.

in reply to Nömenlōony

my favourite chocolate at the moment is Well and Truly wellandtruly.co.uk/ Ethical, fair trade, palm oil free chocolate. Although Hotel Chocolat is great for some nice artisan chocolate.

RE: flipboard.com/@wired/business-…

Sometimes I wonder if anyone could ever outclass Elon Musk as the most destructive, parasitic, despicable techbro to ever walk this earth and Sam Altman keeps popping his head up like a grease-covered gopher.

Companies should be required by law to completely open devices when they end support for them

If they don’t, the penalty should be that the CEO has to eat the bricked devices

yesterday I had an amazing session with a anthropologist friend in the #HailuotoOrganum developing #scoresforvisitors

I used a fog horn and she brought her childhood kantele. we talked very deeply how spaces influence our behavior and how limited we behave in public, it was very interesting, i am preparing to publish the session, you can follow the hashtag

if i were these open source devs, i would make a public announcement, that windows will no longer be supported.

People and companies who use their software can then choose to switch away from microslop or complain to them, that their software isnt being updated anymore.

Another wander back to 2012 and the SIPEXII expedition. At the last sampling site (unplanned, we were stuck) - we had a visit from a Minke whale!

It decided to expand a hole that a seal made the day before - in ice about 10cm thick and not quite solidly frozen - for some room to breathe. The whale hung around for quite a while, returning to this spot to grab air.

It was .. very spectacular.

Had to say goodbye to my good friend Liza today. She was always very gentle and kind. Thank you for all the good times, Liza. Rest in peace.

Sorry about the loss if your buddy Liza. She looks like a sweet girl and boon companion. Take some solace in that you are able to cross paths and spend some happy time together on this Earth. And loving memories.

My Siamese kitties were always the most talkative. I loved that about them. Daphne is pretty chatty, while Velma is nearly silent. I have my own Jay and Silent Bob thing going. 🙂

Many years ago I had a somewhat friend named Albert Pot. I suggested he'd study pharmacy so one day he could start a pharmacy called A Pot Hee!

He warmed to the idea and thus studied tropical forestry 🤨 What he did do was to print little business cards.

A Pot invites you to A Pot Thee (small improvement, yet not true to the original)

Albert handed these out to girls who would often take him up on the offer. He was a gay dude, which caused great confusion to the girls: it was really just tea.

in reply to Pepijn

thank you for sharing Albert's story and yours here. This is bittersweet and tender and human, and he sounds like he was a special person.

Big new Wasmtime security release today - 11 new CVEs found including 2 critical ones using LLMs.

bytecodealliance.org/articles/…

If LLMs can find this many critical bugs in a project that is as rigorous about security as Wasmtime, then get ready for projects with weaker security postures to do a lot worse. Like,,, actually.

The only pushback I'd provide is that I think it's less "the people have chosen" and more "capital has chosen". We're here only because hundreds of billions have been sunk into this.

in reply to yosh

yeah, I agree with that, the pieces were already in place for us to fail, it's not something that just happened accidentally.

We've taken off the forestay yesterday, we'll take it all apart, have a new stay made and try to put the whole thing back together without breaking anything.

@artsun @evets the cable has never been replaced and the boat is 42 years old, the lifetime of a stay is like 10 years? So we took it off after finding candy stripes on the backstay as caution.

This Low Tech magazine post on marine navigation <solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2008…> perfectly mirrors my worries about tech propaganda and digital-only services. I cannot simply use pen and paper anymore, because I have to have OTP codes, electronic registration, GPS, dedicated service apps, NFC cards, and whatnot. Analogue alternatives to these are being phased out, to the detriment of privacy, resilience, and healthy system redundancy. I don’t like that.

Did a little side project to help me tick off days till my vacation, cause why edit a desktop wallpaper image by hand every day when I can write code to do it for me. nickmoline.com/2026/04/09/cale…
