Iran launched a missile strike against the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, one of several U.S. military bases across the Middle East, in retaliation for the U.S. bombing its nuclear sites. Qatari authorities say there were no casualties and that air defenses "successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles." Here's @AssociatedPress's liveblog.

ABC News ; What to know about COVID variant NB.1.8.1 causing 'razor blade throat'

An Acquaintance on Pillowfort evidently contracted this. They do not live in one of the states where the spread has been reported, which means the CDC etc is being unreliable for info about it or at tracking it under the new administration.

They said :

I am counting the first day I noticed any throat irritation as day 1 of symptoms. I started Paxlovid on day 4. I am currently on day 16 and dealing with profound fatigue and muscle weakness, though my cognition is okay. I tested positive for covid on day 13. I am up to date on my vaccinations and practice hand hygiene. I got this because I did not wear a mask indoors in crowded areas (was unable to due to work). The sore throat started mild, got progressively worse, reaching its zenith on days 3.5-5 or 6. I also experienced ear popping (days 3-13), congestion (worse on days 3-6, but still present on day 16).

This is a Sneaky Variant and Can Last Weeks Even With Treatment

Judge Halts Trump Admin’s Attempt to Withhold HUD Funds From Cambridge

Once More The Battle Ends up in the Court over Trump Administrative Overreach.

The ruling comes after Cambridge joined more than 30 other towns, cities, and counties in a lawsuit against U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner. The lawsuit argues that adoption of certain policies “in exchange for Continuum of Care funds is an abuse of executive power and violates the Constitution and federal laws,” according to a city statement.

Germany arrests self-declared 'king' and bans his extremist group

Peter Fitzek, 59, was among those arrested in morning raids across seven states on Tuesday, which involved about 800 security personnel.

The government banned their group, the Reichsbürger, or "citizens of the Reich", which seeks to establish the Königreich Deutschland, or "Kingdom of Germany".

Alexander Dobrindt, German's interior minister, accused the group of attempting to "undermine the rule of law" by creating an alternative state and spreading "antisemitic conspiracy narratives to back up their supposed claim to authority".

His ministry announced the dissolution of the group, and accused it of financing itself through "economic criminal structures".

El Salvador offers Venezuela prisoner swap involving US deportees

El Salvador's president has offered to repatriate 252 Venezuelans deported by the US and imprisoned in his country - if Venezuela releases the same number of political prisoners.
Nayib Bukele appealed directly to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a post on social media.
He said many of the Venezuelan deportees had committed "rape and murder", while Venezuelan political prisoners were jailed only because they opposed Maduro, whose re-election last year is widely disputed.

Republican rebels try to stop Trump's Canada tariffs

Four Republican US senators have broken ranks and voted with the Democrats in an effort to block President Donald Trump's tariffs against Canada. In a rare display of opposition to the president, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and Susan Collins helped to vote through a resolution 51 to 48 to end Trump's emergency declaration on fentanyl trafficking that he has used to justify tariffs on Canadian imports.
