🎓 PhD project in #OpenScience, please boost 🙏 Deadline 7 Jan.

Join the BioRDM team at #EdinburghUniversity to study Electronic Lab Notebooks 📖 in #BioScience! We work alongside bench biologists 'at the coalface'. This PhD will analyse how our colleagues use ELNs, how we and they together can improve their #metadata, and whether using an ELN really leads to more or FAIRer data sharing.

Fuding is competitive, for non-UK citizens.

Fully funded PhD project to work on current natural selection, evolution and demography in several populations of Albatrosses, with fieldwork in the subantarctic.

A French version of the project is here: univ-larochelle.fr/wp-content/…, but if you do not read French know that it is flexible anyway. I will post an English ad later.

Email me with any question if you may be interested.

Come work with us! I have a PhD position available to help understand which mutations in the non-coding parts of coding transcripts have functional consequences in Stem Cells.

We will using genome wide mesaurement of the effect of variation in miRNA binding sites to address when vairation causes changes in regulation and when it doesn't.

Mixed wetlab, bioinformatics and statistics project.

Seeking applicants for #PhD projects on #genetics & #language:

1) Deciphering roles of rare genetic variants in developmental speech/language disorders. This project studies impacts of pathogenic gene disruptions by integrating data from clinical & speech/language profiles of affected patients with lab-based analyses in human neuronal models (e.g. brain organoids).

2) Mapping language-relevant genetic effects on brain variability using normative modelling. Here, we apply normative modelling to large-scale imaging & DNA data from the general population, to uncover heterogeneous effects of language-relevant genetic variants.

3) Genetic architecture of the human language network. In this project, we employ advanced neuroimaging techniques to map neural circuits involved in language processing, characterize interindividual differences in their properties, & associate them with DNA variation in unique cohorts.

Applications due before Jan 8th 2024. More info here: mpi.nl/imprs-phd-fellowships-2…

Say hi!

With the start of the academic year, I want to repost my expert learning article. Soon, graduate students will start their first lab rotations. A lucky few will walk in, and things will work seemingly magically on day one. For most, this marks the start of a sometimes arduous journey of learning to be an expert experimentalist. As a PI, have you ever wondered how to make this journey less arduous? 1/🧵

Happy to say I defended my dissertation "Methods and complexity in phage-bacteria ecology and evolution"!

Much thanks to all those who supported me throughout my PhD.

I'm glad to be sticking around the Turner Lab for another year as a post-doc to continue my work on multispecies phage-bacteria communities

let's see how this travels.

my department is offering four fully salaried, three-year PhD positions, across all its areas of research.

positions are based in Oslo, salaries are good, you get robust support and training, and the department is an inclusive, supportive research environment where PhDs are looked after and treated as valued junior colleagues. PhDs in Norway are employees, so you'll have workplace protections, paid holidays, the opportunity to join a union and so on.

research topics for the call are open, within the areas of the department, but you'll need a potential supervisor before you apply. I'm happy to discuss projects that speak to my own interests, or direct you to colleagues who might be interested. here's an overview of current projects within the department.

deadline feb 28, 2023.
