it looks like they do because accounts can be suspended, but if they do it's very loose.

Much like Snap they do reactive moderation, you can publish as much malware as you want but if a mod notices it or a user reports it then it will be deleted

Canonical Keeps Shipping Malware Snaps!! #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/kzB6fHL_2Pg
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I would argue that the AUR is probably a bit safer than the Snap Store because you are given an install script that is completely viewable to the user. Plus auto updates don't happen.

On the other hand, the snap store is very opaque to the user and they don't know what exactly is being installed. Plus auto updates happen without even notifying the user.

Honestly the idea of snaps is decent, but the execution is horrible.

Tech support question:

There is a Peertube channel called Shifter ( video.canadiancivil.com/c/shif… )

When I try to subscribe to it using my Mastodon account, the page in Mastodon shows 228 posts, but none of them visible (see screenshot or here mas.to/@shifter_cycling@video.… )

Any idea why this might be?

in reply to TechAltar

It's a Mastodon thing. It doesn't download posts that pre-date someone following the account from, in your case, mas.to. New uploads will appear.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron Ah, so since nobody from mas.to has followed the channel yet I can't see his past stuff? I see.

I may surrounded by vast wetlands within the mountains, but I'm also in the historic dustbowl region. Climatechange is likely to make a swift and brutal entrance again.

My solar garden might keep my tiny house quite comfortable, but climatechange can take away all sources of food and water with no mercy.

in reply to Muse

good to read that 25% of the questions asked by the little Tassies were of a scientific bent and, even better, "action on climate change was the most frequent theme, discussed in 40% of questions" - this indicates they are informed and concerned and looking toward their futures (possibly considering "what can i do?").

Disappointing that the article finished with a list of what others should do, though, rather than articulate what is being done (such as climate change topics being part of the national and state curricula throughout high school, and incorporated into subjects in primary schools). Let's not forget they wont be children in just a few years (stated age range was 7-18 so some are already adults)

Today I’d like to share my dream with you: I’m (not) opening a restaurant selling chopped sandwiches called Choppke’s. “I told people about my idea. And every single one of them laughed at me. To my face!” kottke.org/24/03/welcome-to-ch…
in reply to kottke.org

I really love this - and I want a shirt - but I keep bouncing off of the “Prechew Charlie’s“ skit from what I think was SNL.
in reply to kottke.org

People can get a chopped sandwich anywhere, ok? They come to Choppke’s for the atmosphere, and the attitude.

Well, I promised myself a 4x5 self-portrait today. I shot 4 sheets and missed focus on all of them. This was the most successful of the lot. I like to include the trigger bulb in the shot. Extra film-ey that way maybe?

This looks very sharp, I guess the missed focus only comes through on the highest resolution?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @tmcfarlane I cheated a bit by over-sharpening 😀. But yeah, I may have been looking too closely when calling it a failure.

We started this account less than 6 months ago. It's going pretty well – thanks to you: 4.2k followers, lots of interactions, questions, and comments. 🎉

A couple of weeks ago, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) asked us to write a guest article about our experience with #Mastodon / the #Fediverse, explain the basics, and point out the advantages. <img class=" title=":mastodon:"/>

Challenge accepted. 👍

So here's the finished post by @lxplm, hot off the #blog press. ⌨️

Here is the link to the survey I have been discussing in previous posts. Not my research, it's from Alina Wojciechowska who is a student at the University of Stirling.
I'm sharing it here because I found it so interesting and thought others in the #believeinfilm #filmisnotdead community might also like to see it.

I am reposting it here on a public post so other interested people can also share it if they wish.

The politics of our online spaces have become coterminous with geopolitics. After Donald Trump left the presidency, he did the obvious next thing: he became a sysadmin.

in reply to Brodie Robertson

frankly, the AUR might not have better moderation, but at least all the PKGBUILDs are out in the open, so you can take a look, and if they just extract a tarball from a weird URL, you might just not install it, while if it pulls the source form the official github repo and builds locally, you can have some peace of mind.

3 years ago I paid $6.99/month for Disney+, tax included. They offered an annual subscription for $69.99, so I switched to that.

2 years ago it increased to $79.99 plus tax, or $86.39.

Last year it increased to $109.99 plus tax, or $119.34.

This year it increased to $139.99 plus tax, or $151.89.

In the span of 3 years the cost has MORE THAN DOUBLED. Conveniently, they now offer an $7.99/mo plan—with ads. Disney knows they can make more off of you by selling ads.

Edit: It's worse - they published ten scam apps under different wallet brand names. 🙁
