Age verification, what's your take on it?

itsfoss.com/news/our-take-on-a…

#privacy #ageverification

in reply to It's FOSS

I never liked this idea and tried to avoid it as much as possible. I heard all major operating systems will have some kind of age verification with your face or your ID. Some apps like Roblox or Discord heavily enforce it for example. This is a huge privacy risk, also just a note, it is about control.

Pete Hegseth said this. Out loud. And then put a transcript of what he said up on a site called war.gov

Traditional allies who care about long-standing internationally agreed upon rules of engagement are deemed to be wringing their hands and clutching their pearls

This is as clear a declaration of, "We are committed to committing war crimes and will continue to war crime and just try and stop us!" as I have ever heard

And I was alive during the Bush years

@nextcloud_main

Gotta say, it feels great being able to promote @nextcloud@mastodon.xyz 's posts at long last now that they're POSTING THEIR VIDEOS ON PEERTUBE!!! (On their own instance no less!)

I've yelled at them for... a long time, so now it's time to give credit where it's earned. It's great to see y'all living up to the values of privacy, data control and decentralization with your videos.

Way to go Nextcloud! 👏 👍

PS If you haven't subscribed to Nextcloud's peertube channel yet, show them the effort was worth it and FOLLOW THEM NOW! It's at @nextcloud@peertube.nextcloud.com (you can follow from Masto or any Fedi client, too)

California law to require operating systems to check your age gamingonlinux.com/2026/03/cali…

#PCGaming #Linux #SteamOS #Windows #California

it's pretty obvious this law was written by people who only use single-user phones and tablets.

Also, and I cannot stress this enough - very few tech-savvy people get into politics. I've been asked some incredibly bananas tech questions by politicians before. They're very out of touch. This law being a prime example.

If you live in California you need to call your local reps and tell them why this is a bad idea.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

isn't it amazing that a group of muppets that can barely navigate a smartphone or in some cases can't even figure out how to turn the alarm off on their car are making laws for tech🤦‍♂️

Condensing the "Notifications" area

@Friendica Support

As the user number of Friendica grows, some behaviors do not scale well. One of them is the "Notifications" area.

The problem is that notifications are shown one-by-one - causing me to wake up to 37 notifications from a single post I interacted with. Not only is it kind of annoying - it also risks that other notifications drown in this tsunami of items.

I suggest to group notifications by "Post" - much like it is done on Facebook.

I have created a feature request for this at github.com/friendica/friendica…

🙏❤️

Friendica Support reshared this.

in reply to Jesper Ross Stocholm 🇩🇰

Open your personal settings, subgroup „Account" → „Notification". There is an option called „Show detailed notifications". If this is unchecked you get just one notification for all reactions having happened in the same thread. Isn't this what you want to achieve?
in reply to Andreas Kilgus

It works as I wished (more or less). Thank you. I have closed the issue on github (but am keeping this thread for later reference/help to others.
in reply to Andreas Kilgus

When configuring the "Notifications" setting, the result is

"<name> commented on your thread <post title>

I would have preferred it to be

"<name> and 9999 others commented on your thread <post title>

But it is not a big deal 😊

in reply to Jesper Ross Stocholm 🇩🇰

@Jesper Ross Stocholm 🇩🇰 The hint not to look just for one new comment is a useful addition, especially in big threads, indeed. Maybe it is no big deal to add the info in the code, too. Chances for implementation get higher if the feature request is present in the tracker. 🙂
