Here's a question for #academia: why shouldn't I count my contributions to major open-source projects which are scientifically relevant (e.g. Linux [1], OpenCV [2]) just like publications?
- They have a unique identifier.
- They are most certainly peer-reviewed (if you don't believe me, try to submit a Linux patch sometime)
- They are archived long-term.
- They are publicly available.
So... where's the difference?

The court is fundamentally antidemocratic—and the only way to limit the damage it can do is to reduce its power, budget, and lack of accountability. The Nation
I'm starting to think that the least credible trait of Superman is not that he can see through things, or have microscopic vision, or be invulnerable, or flying even through the solar system.
No, the most incredible thing (in 2024) is believing that, thanks to him being brought up in America, he would have such a strong moral compass that would never allow him to become a tyrant.

Someone linked to a bug in the screenshot tool in plasma 6 in the arch linux matrix room (i think in offtopic one), which is pretty bad enough. In some cases, black boxes are shown instead of selecting the screenshot area. It was something like that, dont remember exactly. This might be a reason why things are held back.
Will try to see if I can find the bug report once again on kde's bugtracker

what is going on with all the white and grey???
YES. I have turned my #RaspberryPi into the most wonderful media/music server. It's basically my own little super charged and non-capitalistic Spotify.
Here's how it works.
Playing music: It runs #Jellyfin (in a docker container). This is so amazing – it even has a phone app (this is how I listen mostly).
Adding more music:
The Pi has an external drive connected to it (mount at boot) with all my music, shared as a samba server on our home network, this makes it easy to manage the files.
Latest cartoon on Alabama decision that IVF embryos are people
I know it's a joke, but it does occur to me that there are cases where encouraging the employees to anthropomorphosize non-people like this is a good idea. Like, in a cryo facility, you want all the workers to operate on the belief that every single body is a person who may be revived some day, and that allowing them to thaw would be the end of their life, not when they were frozen: you don't want workers who think they are just working fancy storage for dead bodies, which was what a lot of the early scams did.
Good comic. Makes my brain do things.

PipeWire routing is godlike. For years I used to have a super convoluted #JACK + #VoiceMeeter Potato setup to handle all my stupid routing on Windows (for music production).
It was very much a botched together solution from pieces that weren't really designed to do what I was trying to do and just barely sorta worked.
Then #PipeWire and #yabridge happened and ever since I tried it, I haven't looked back (not just at Windows, but also at PulseAudio).
