At the #OMN Our 5 instances were funded by the remaining 5k of the tech fund from visionontv project grant for the last ten years, this pot of money is now beyond empty. It was never self funded... opencollective.com/open-media-… This is normal issue... Have been applying for #FOSS Dev funding for #OMN last 3-4 years to cross fund the instances but nothing, #blocking, as most of this funding is poured down the drain.

The instances have been running to seed the #OMN tech Dev and provide hands on #ux and backend mod knowledge for these Dev projects.

The is nothing happening to fix this #FOSS mess, only the #fashionista stuff is sustainable and this soon disappears when it goes out of fashion.

#openweb reboot is limited by the people working on it. We obviously need to do better and we can if we choose too #OMN

TheBadSpace, Death Threats
This is a safety thing now. You need to defederate thebad.space sources and defenders ASAP. Are0h is literally being friendly with a defender of his who sent someone critical of thebad.space death threats. He called tech.lgbt kiwifarms and now he's actually endorsing death threats. For the safety of you and your users, cut ties immediately

AI can barely copy & baste the basic boilerplate for shell scripts.

Bottles Is Sick Of Downstream Distro Packages #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/MFa6d11JWro
in reply to Brodie Robertson

In this case I think Fedora reserves the right to package bottle. I mean it's FOSS. That said, I think that Fedora should redirect all support links to itself rather than bottles. I'm pretty sure some other distributions already do this and I'm surprised Fedora doesn't.

I'm all in favour for bottles to force this. They should not have to deal with supported requests for things that they did not package themselves.

Ah yes, AI and its hype cycle is very different to Blockchain and its hype cycle

in reply to FCLC

(Yes "AI" has more legitimate applications than BC ever did, but it's burning a heck of a lot of power to get there.

Yes I'm excluding recommendation engines, since those have already been brought down orders of magnitude in energy$ relative to output over the last ten years)

QLogic 10Gb "QLGE" Ethernet Driver Set To Be Removed From The Linux Kernel

For those that happen to have QLogic 10Gb PCIe Ethernet adapters, the mainline Linux kernel is planning to remove this driver from the kernel source tree unless any active users step-up...

#SC22 #reinvent #HPC I wrote a story for #InsideHPC on my impressions of the supercomputing show and why I think CXL3.0 and custom CPU designs is going to be the future for supercomputers. AWS confirmed some of my thoughts this week. insidehpc.com/2022/12/sc22-cxl… the picture is of a 16 way CXL2.0 switch seen at the show.
in reply to Adrian Cockcroft

Reviewing this story, where do you think we are with #CXL at this point? Do you foresee relevant product announcements at #SC23?

It may not look like much. But this is the first drawing I do with markers.😎

I feel like people are just giving up on their privacy these days… but we don’t have to! We should choose products that respect our privacy and support laws that protect it!

How retro kick ass is that? Flash is resurrected sans the neglected, proprietary, security ridden, plugin bs of Adobe; thanks to Rust, and modern day sandboxed WebAssembly. No plugin required; small, compact, compatible engine, that unlocks decades of lost SWF content in all its vector visuals, MP3 stereo, and ActionScript-y glory. github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle #flash #adobe #webdev #javascript #rust #retrogaming

As my group is slowly approaching size > 1, it's time for the new lab website: www.volkovlab.com. Will be soon looking for a postdoc and a technician (both funded by @bbsrc for 3 years). While the HR approve the official ads, feel free to reach out! A boost is highly appreciated

10 years ago this week, together with British Antarctic Survey colleagues Steve Bremner (then Head of Technical Services) and Chris Hindley (then Marine Operations Manager), I attended a COMNAP workshop on plans for new polar research vessels, held on the S.A. Agulhas II in Cape Town.
