i've been using relm4 for a while and i'm really happy with it. i love the #elm architecture - your app's state is a struct (or object), your user interface is rendered by a function that takes your state and returns a tree of widgets (or similar), widgets emit messages, messages modify state. i find it so much cleaner and easier to wrap my head around than traditional imperative methods or MVVM.

what are some other nice cross-platform #desktop app frameworks that use this architecture? i'm mainly familiar with #relm4 and #iced in #rust. :boost_requested:

in reply to Lynnesbian

I was originally contributing to relm4 to potentially use it as a base for libcosmic, before it was decided to base it on iced instead

Lost Windows after configuring dual boot? Here’s how to restore it:

You painstakingly restore it, feeling triumphant, only for Windows to waltz in during some random update and smash it to bits like an overenthusiastic toddler with a sledgehammer. Brilliant. Thanks, Microsoft. Truly masterful work.

in reply to Joseph Teller

America's food monopolies have huge farms so when an outbreak of bird flu happens, millions of birds are culled. This is why eggs are scarce.
in reply to Joseph Teller

Yes, and that's like 75% of the explanation... smaller farms. smaller coops. less outdoor roaming due to this thing they call "Winter" and more safety precautions to avoid contact with migrating birds in their outdoor areas, and more hands on care of the birds so an illness can be sited right away.

Russell Brand has always concerned me. He was an icon for the Atheist groups here in Britain and Australia. However, he always seemed to be someone who 1) wanted an audience and 2) something to kick. Having hung out with comedy performers, I am aware of how toxic some people are in that field. I am surprised that last year he converted to Christianity in the US. Yet, he may well be using this as protection from certain allegations being made against him. It may also be more fertile ground for him to have 1) an audience and 2) something new to kick.

Daniel Sloss received death threats for calling out Russell Brand

in reply to Muse

@clarice overhere My experience of him was that he was always weird. He perhaps has never been a fully formed person, so most of who he is happens to be a performance. I can't say.
in reply to Muse

i didnt mind him when he first started mouthing off - he was still a junkie then and much more humble and self-effacing, funny as all getgo. Then..he wasnt.

'End of an era': Last surviving Battle of Britain pilot dies

The last surviving Battle of Britain pilot, John "Paddy" Hemingway, has died at the age of 105.
Mr Hemingway, who was originally from Dublin, joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a teenager before World War Two.
The pilot's squadron shot down 90 enemy aircraft during an 11-day period in May 1940, and provided fighter cover during the Battle of France.
During the war, Gp Capt Hemingway was shot down four times.

Reddit, where sanity goes to die. According to Reddit, it's perfectly fine to list a game like GTA V Enhanced as Playable on Steam Deck, even though online play is intentionally blocked, because single-player works.

reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comment…

Person 1: "Hey guys, check out GTA V Enhanced on Steam Deck. It's Playable!!"

Person 2 who just bought it: "Uh, but online doesn't work?"

Person 1: "But it's Playable offline!"

🙃

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

That is what "playable" means. Furthermore, this is the price one pays to be a consumer of corporate products — to never receive the full product all at once.

Solution: Don't consume corporate products as long as that's the situation.

in reply to OtterCynical

@ottercynical No, it's not what Playable means.

Playable means it has specific mostly minor issues, but the game can still be fully playable.

An entire major part of the game being blocked is not playable.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

My experience reading compatibility lists over the last 17 years and testing the outcomes myself seems to inform me otherwise?
in reply to OtterCynical

@ottercynical it doesn’t matter what you think of the word Playable, what matters is Valve’s rating and documentation.

A game with a major feature, what most people go for, being blocked is *not* playable by anyone with common sense

in reply to OtterCynical

@ottercynical I'm not reading all that, refer to my prev reply.

If anyone thinks "Playable" should apply to a game with a major feature blocked, they're wrong.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Verified, of course not. Playable would be OK for me as long as they add a bullet warning about non-working online modes. I seldom play online games.

BTW, I use Arch. 😜

also true for anything interdisciplinary. In grad school i saw a talk by an evolutionary biologist who studied microbes (Historically totally separate fields).

He presented some exciting findings that got published in Nature, but some microbiologists in the audience thought that the results had been common knowledge for decades. In science it is interesting how something that is extremely exciting and novel in one context could be considered trivial in another.

That's why he's going after Social Security. Trump's lies should fool no one on this front.

What's up with mastodon.social instance @Gargron?
Yesterday it was cdn.concert.io and today it's admanager.concert.io.

There is absolutely no explanation over why they are integrated with the instance. Once again thanks to #TrackerControl which exposed these integrations.

It's time to ditch the mastoson.social instance.

#Fediverse #Ads #Tracking #AdsInMastodonSocial

in reply to Eugen Rochko

hey, thanks for the clarification. I found the reason why it happens. It appears that mastodon.social and concert.io are depending upon fastly.net for CDN services and hence there is an overlap of IP address which #TrackerControl identifies as an outgoing request to the Advertising portal concert.io.

Apologies for the trouble @Gargron. I will take this as an issue with #TrackerControl to see what can be done.

Can this networks wisdom help me out?

Yesterday I ended up with a small splinter of metal (from a screw) in the tip of my index finger. No worries, I figured it'll come out by itself.

This morning, turning on the tea kettle, I felt a faint buzzing sensation. Not painful, but not pleasant either.

After some experimenting it seems to be the metal splinter reaction to (very) nearby electric fields (transformers etc).

Is this some type of parasitic capacitance?

#electricity #body #question

in reply to Pepijn

I got a piece of glass stuck in my finger before and experienced similar 'electric shock' response when I pressed down on things, so it might just be the nerve sensation. But maybe no harm to see a nurse or doctor anyway if you can because it's metal, in case it rusts or has any rust on it.

Psst, there's a Steam sale that's ending soon. You can grab these great titles before time runs out! 🐧🎮
