@Mastodon I’m a big badge collector, so this made my day. My official Mastodon enamel pin badges arrived today, and seeing all three laid out on their backing cards just makes them even better.

The classic logo pin, the glittery Live Laugh Federate design, and the Mastodon Elephant pin all look brilliant. Really happy to support Mastodon at the same time.

If anyone else wants to support it too: shop.joinmastodon.org/

Another reason to hate #Apple We're seeing more 2018+ MacBook Pro/Air donations — but Apple's T2 chip means even after iCloud sign-out and reset, the firmware stays locked to the original account.

Without donor contact, these machines are useless. 🙁

I've upcycled ~1,000 older Macs, but T2 era machines will end that. It's controlling, creates e-waste, and will only get worse. #righttorepair matters — Apple couldn't care less.

in reply to aglimme

@aglimme @Gargron do you even know how big of an issue stolen macs are? I bet you don't!

Also, i'm not saying lets just unlock them all. But it should be EASIER for the legit user to release it.. remotely from their icloud account.

You can have both security and reusability

in reply to Mike

@aglimme I'm going to go even further: e-waste is a much bigger problem than MacBook theft. Right to repair should be universal.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @aglimme If this was really about theft, then a user with a stolen macbook would be able to use it to contact the owners for purposes of return.
in reply to Epic Null

@Epic_Null @Gargron @aglimme exactly.

Like how hard would it be to, at that screen, have a button that says "contact user" or "request to unlock"

And then the user gets a secure message asking them if they lost this mac or if they want to unlock it for the new owner?

Seems doable!

in reply to Mike

@Epic_Null @Gargron I totally agree that there should be a mechanism to totally unlock the machine, this however, sounds like a great way to harass someone. Steal their laptop or phone, then constantly ask to unlock. Seeing that pop-up over and over would be so annoying. Also laptop theft from cafes where I live is definitely a significant issue. Just want to point out that there are legitimate reason to brick hardware.
in reply to aglimme

@aglimme @Epic_Null It's a machine. It should turn on when you press power. Apple's involvement should end when you exchange money for the device.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @aglimme "Not something I like/agree with/accept" and "Not what it's being sold as" are two different concepts. The latter just happens to be a more convincing argument when talking to people who may have different expectations.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @aglimme the one reason to password lock the bootloader would be to DETER theft if people know it will be useless to them to steal it. But there should definitely be an option given to the device owner to disable this.

So if I understand this correctly, the politicians are requiring that every operating system be able to report to the predators whose accounts represent a vulnerable juvenile potential victim? And parents think this is a good idea?
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Good question if this goes to ban US stuff in EU outright because could be a violation of the privacy laws.
With the EU/US relationship in freefall, it could be another string attached to the political spat.

Linux/freeBSD maintainers should think twice before jump this bandwagon before find themselves banned from EU and other countries with more restrictive laws.

After finally finding the supermarket that most often (I guess) has the fertilized JiDori eggs. I heard that other stores in the same local chain have these eggs they were never there when I looked. In the nice weather the 20 minute drive across town wasn't so bad. The store was much bigger than I expected to be before noticing that it's very close to a Japanes military base. It would be interesting to tack down the producer and ask her about the pedigree (!???!) of the birds.. If they are Amakusa DaiOu birds, or if this is something like the descendents of F-1 hybrid plants splitting into their crossed parent varieties and sometimes looking very different than their immediate ancestor...

New Chicks: mostly from JiDokKo eggs from the FukuroNoKai (Owl Association) farmer's market, but two are from Silky eggs from that market's table too. The brown striped ones may be from birds that were hatched from JiDori eggs from a local supermarket. Those birds got huge and I want to try hatching a bunch of them.. They are labeled as JiDori.. so they could be anything I guess.. Maybe Amakusa Daiou which is what the look like, I think...

drew yesterday's wordmark in #uxn in ~350 bytes (40% savings over bitmap) by indexing into the 22 sprites it can be reduced to.
also used a "door" correctly for the first time while doing this (before ultimately removing it to save bytes ^^")

@neauoire nicely done! it seems like a tradeoff, where either the Tal is simpler and the sprite data is a little larger (yours), or the Tal is more complex and the sprite data is a little smaller (mine)?

to your credit, i like the handwritten look, i forgot that the sprite byte is powerful enough to work the way it does in yours ^^"

in most cases, roms rarely take the full 64kb, but since it's a VM operations are clostly, in this case it doesn't matter to much since it's single shot rendering, and it's going to be lightning fast, but if you were to animate the logo, the fewer cycles spent in the evaluation loop the better

You may have seen the video where this big dog keeps on calling a little dog a cat!

The saga continues. The big dog has now made friends with the "cat" And it seems the woman has given up on trying to convince her shepherd Flambo that Rupert the Yorkie is a dog.

Asking to see "cat" friend.

The dog calling another dog a "cat".

in reply to Muse

Heh. Or maybe the big dog is using "cat" as a term of endearment for their 'lil buddy.
in reply to Muse

@Richard BTW we watched Polar Bear Cafe last night on your recommendation. Kawaii! (cute...and funny).

It's really nice to know that we can buy parts compatible with a 45 years old furler.

This is a new fitting connected to the original socket, I realize that thread sizes have standardized a long time ago, but still, aren't we fortunate to live in such a world that these don't change every 5 years..

OTOH, isn't a Japanese boat in Canada particularly vulnerable to metric/US-customary-unit muddles?
in reply to Ed Davies

yeah, most part shops are still stuck in imperial units, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem, we can find metric parts for everything.

there's a lot to this, high den might be reflected as heavier fabric, but not exactly mean clothing durability as a whole.

If you're looking to develop an eye for well made clothing, Bernadette Banner has a lot of amazing resources on that topic, esp thrifting.

She's a famous youtuber, her book covers most of the same things as well if video formats are not your thing.

sometimes I wish I had been born with a moral compass of “make money at the cost of everything else.” It would be somuch easier than actually caring about things.

Not only is this company pivoting from shoes to AI, they are pivoting from “let’s produce shoes with less plastic because it’s more sustainable” to “we’re going to buy a bunch of computers to add to how fast the other AI data centers can burn the world down.”

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

someone bought the SEC filing, sold the fashion side, and is wearing the skin suit to pump and dump.

Theo hard at work in the biscuit factory. Have a peaceful evening, everyone.

So far, only about 1% of the British electorate has registered an interest in having a vote on channeling water management away from dumping effluent for profit and instead into public ownership for health.

Perhaps we can bump the numbers a bit, at least to the point where how not to enshittify what we drink and cook with might be debated by MPs?
