First day back after our offsite company week at Nextcloud!

It was great to meet our amazing team again in person! We had a lot of discussions, work and of course fun.

The Sales Engineering team took the chance and organized a spontaneous Workflow session where we had fun using Nextcloud Flow. 😎

Thanks everyone for such a great week. This weeks always reminds me what awesome people we have at Nextcloud! 🚀

#Nextcloud

Has anyone seen Flow yet?

ZOMG! It's SO beautiful. I cried just for how amazing it was! (And for happy, sad, and amazing empathy)

in reply to Muse

I've seen it and I love it 😀

Kew is absolutely the best thing I have discovered in a long time. I completely stopped using my Navidrome server at home because of it. #cli #terminal #music_player #Navidrome
in reply to It's FOSS

Type in terminal:
- "kew stones" --> plays back my Rolling Stones folder in shuffle
- "kew dark side" --> plays back Dark Side of the Moon album
- "kew ." --> plays my favorites shuffled (press . to add to favorites while listening to a song)
- "kew smooth criminal" --> plays the song
- and it also has radio with search!

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Looks like film photography has been recognized as a cultural heritage in Germany and is on a path toward UNESCO recognition:

analog.cafe/comments/8x49

Do you think it should be listed as such, and what may this do for our craft?

#photography #filmphotography

in reply to Dmitri ☕️

I have no idea what this means in practice. In my view the best thing anyone could do for preserving film photography would be producing Portra-equivalent film stock in Europe, because Fuji doesn't want to do it and Harman Phoenix is still nowhere near.

Another portrait. Two Arri tungsten lights, one at 90° with a softbox and one at 45° without, but aiming at the hair. No gels this time. There was also a reflector but I forgot to move it for this pose so it's kind of irrelevant.

Not quite sure why, but I find this an absolutely stunning image.
Is it the composition or the model ?
I dunno, but inclined to say "both".
Love it !

Thought I’d spend the morning getting a feel for what it’s like working with an AI generated codebase.

"There is no dataset for the future"

Fantastic listen for a Sunday morning with a big mug of chai: Nathalie Nahai and Margaret Hefferman on Creativity, Uncertainty and How to Thrive in Volatile Times.

"Uncertainty is the only area in which discoveries are made. Uncertainty is the great propulsive power behind science, behind art.... You can't think your way to a painting, and you can't think your way to a scientific discovery, you simply have to go out and explore." - Margaret Hefferman

Great reframe of groundlessness. Uncertainty as the space of creativity Vs illusion of certainty through 'data'.

Snails of Cuba! In the end, we found 5 species, including the most endangered and arguably also most beautiful, Polymita sulphurosa. Unfortunately, we also encountered illegal sale of the shells on mountain pass.

Why? Project is on the evolution and conservation of these snails, led by Dr Bernardo Reyes in Cuba and working with colleagues from London zoo, Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

I bookmarked this 2 years ago when there was a house on it. It's since clearly fallen into the sea, but there is still someone who bought the patch of sand for $175k USD?? Look at the price history and you can tell right when it stopped being a house for sale and started being...sand.

I really hope Mastodon is doing something to stop the bot attack, because I am being absolutely firehosed with new empty profiles every day.

They have no text, no profile image, no posts, and look oddly similar.

This looks autogenerated to me.

@staff @Gargron

in reply to Shiri Bailem

@shiri There's no indication there's anything wrong with these accounts except that they didn't fill out their profile and didn't post anything. That they all follow exactly 38 people is the only thing in common between them, but they are the 38 accounts recommended to new users on the first screen after sign-up. It feels like a very low bar to call someone a bot or a bot attack. Bots usually do fill out their profile with links and try to send messages.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@shiri What about having a policy to periodically purge unused/unpopulated accounts?

This way we can better defend against a bunch of “staged” accounts ready to amplify some engineered news/messaging in the future.

So well put by George Monbiot. Applies to our tepid Labor government here in Australia too. People don’t want to be regarded only as economic units, and if you block leftist reform they reach for hard-right chaos.

"The democratic recession does not begin when a far-right party takes office. It begins when a centrist party crushes hope in democracy. When Keir Starmer’s government takes a chainsaw to people’s aspirations for a fairer, greener, kinder country, he cuts off not just faith in the Labour party but faith in politics itself. The almost inevitable result, as countries from the US to the Netherlands, Argentina to Austria, Italy to Sweden show, is to let the far right in."

So that $10B bailout for farmers.

Is it a payout for political support? Yeah. Bold move for an industry that talks so much about hard work & independence!

But it's also worse than that. This is a US food crisis in the making.

usda.gov/about-usda/news/press…

Let's talk about the payoff part first?

in reply to Sarah Taber

how much of this will go to small farmers though? It seems like $10B is not that much giving the scale of the industry and the number of big corporations involved.
in reply to Frank Aylward

@foaylward To be seen. The chatter I'm hearing is "Don't worry, this is just the first tranche, there'll be more!" The first Trump admin certainly had multiple multi-billion payoffs to farmers.

Also, fwiw, most small family farmers in the US are millionaires with above-average household income. Even if the whole $10B went to small family farms, it still wouldn't be poverty relief by a long shot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, this is a btop from an 18 core machine with 256GB of RAM with the major load being friendica, a secondary load is hubzilla, mastodon, and miskey, but friendica represents more load than the latter three combined, but it also gets more traffic than the latter three combined. But what I am getting at here, you may want to consider dedicating a physical server. I'll grant you it's busier than usual as we've just returned the server to service after three months of downtime, 7 motherbords, three power supplies, and two CPU's later.
