One criteria:

โœ” That it's #ubuntu

I started using it in late 2004, and have been using it ever since. I see no reason to switch.

Switch to a distribution that is not #Ubuntu and that does not use either #Gnome or #KDE (unless the Gnome devs ever decide to give us an actual working screen SAVER, and I do NOT mean a screen LOCKER or a screen BLANKER!!! They need to realize that if you send no signal at all to some TV sets the screen does NOT go blank, but instead displays a big warning that the signal has been lost!). Once the #Cosmic desktop is out of alpha/beta I want to give #PopOS a try, but I have about had it with Ubuntu. Unfortunately I am not conversant enough with Linux to be a frequent "distro hopper" - too afraid I would lose data and software (Linux needs something like the MacOS "Migration Assistant").

i miss #UBUNTU very much! You know, the one distro that did not suck so much and did not force shit in your face like #SNAPS or did not ask for #protectionMoney . These had been good times. Good times gone now.

As a 20-year user of #ubuntu I find concerning that the page celebrating the 20 years of the OS is full of references to LinkedIn and twitter: what a disconnect between Ubuntu the company and ubuntu the enthusiast user base. The page, the celebration itself even, is then not for non-paying users but for the enterprise-level users that pay. Makes sense, of course โ€“ a company needs to pay its bills โ€“, but it is nonetheless an upsetting reminder.

While sending dozens upon dozens of bug reports over the years surely doesn't pay the bills, it is also free labour ubuntu got from me. Fair deal, though: I got a free, stable OS out of it, for 20 years, for all our servers, desktops and laptops.

And the "ISV" acronym (independent software vendor) finally explains why the rise of the snap packages, which as a user I don't want anything to do with โ€“ they have consistently brought trouble. Only makes sense, again, from the perspective of an enterprise with bills to pay.

#canonical #ubuntu NO MORE ! Until they stop forcing #snaps in my face and stop asking for "protection money" the days where i would use UBUNTU ARE GONE FOR GOOD!! I put it right there beside the #RedHat distros , on the TRASH HEAP.

it was fun, until they started #snaps and later ask for "#protection money" if you want security updates of software they let you install for free, but then hold back updates later behind a pay wall. NO THANKS!! #NO_UBUNTU Good times gone. so is #UBUNTU

WOW! I don't give two shits about that ! #UBUNTU is dead to me, since they ask for "protection money" regularly and deliberately hold back (free) security updates.

Good News, Everyone!
Canonical has implemented one of my suggestions after the recent crypto scam issue in the Snap Store. This is excellent progress and should be applauded. ๐Ÿ‘

[Blog] Hey! Remember a month ago I mentioned there was a scam BitCoin wallet in the Snap Store. There's another one. This time I took it apart to see how it works.

Edit: It's worse - they published ten scam apps under different wallet brand names. ๐Ÿ™

Accidentally opened Steam on my M1 MacBook Air.

Rust (the game, not the language, you nerds) runs on Macs!?

But not on #Linux (I know why).

I wonder how many people play this game on a Mac ๐Ÿค”

I used to play it on #Ubuntu quite a lot. Bit of a time-sink. So it's probably for the best that I don't play it anymore. It just baffled me that it's possible to download it. Not that I will, obviously ๐Ÿ˜‡
