My trip to Japan is almost here - commence Camera selection paralysis.

I want to bring them all, but I don't want to carry them all, but, I don't want to miss a moment, but I also want to experience everything and also capture everything all at the same time...

*sigh*.

in reply to Geoffrey Giebelhaus

@Gargron @michaelrussell With the change to CT-scan-type airport scanners, and the reluctance of some airports to allow hand searches, I think there's a case to be made to take NO film to Japan. Pre-order some to your accommodation, or just find'n'buy. Also a case to get at least dev done while there... But, it would be more important to me as I probably wouldn't take a digicam, except for the X10 (the only option)!
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @carusb @michaelrussell a good caution, though I've only had one instance of international travel where they been resistant to hand checking my film thankfully. It seems to be a much more US specific issue of being denied from everyone I've talked to about it.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @michaelrussell Good to know, thanks. I think there have been issues in the transition period, let's hope the word is really getting through.

Mozilla is adding a toggle to disable all generative "AI" features in Firefox. It shows that organized pushback is actually making a difference.

One battle won. Now let's make it crystal clear. We want tools, not forced LLMs. Keep the pressure on until "AI" is no longer an option.

โš ๏ธ Password cannot contain that many special characters. I know you think it's a good idea to generate a 64 character string of random punctuation, but trust me: Four years from now, when you need to type this password in to your smart TV, you're gonna regret it.
in reply to Lynnesbian

mostly I have excellent random strings of letters, digits, and symbols, but there is one specific TV-centric account where the password had at one point degenerated to "fuckyou2!" after missing out on actually watching something by trying to enter it

did you know there's no limit to how many if let statements you can have in #rust? you can just keep adding more. nobody can stop you
#Rust
in reply to Lynnesbian

is there actually no limit or is it stupidly high, like java and its limit of 255 parameters to a function call?
in reply to Lynnesbian

fine... Give me a minute while I blow the top of this stack.

well ... that's rather silly ๐Ÿ˜

it just works ... prints out the loop_count of optional values.

Used random number generation to make sure the compiler wasn't making it vanish in a puff of logic

Lynnesbian reshared this.

in reply to Lynnesbian

so it does crash rustc with a stack overflow if you set it to 65536 loops but that doesn't seem entirely unreasonable honestly.

I wanted to love "Beautyland" by Marie-Helene Bertino - a neurodiverse protagonist who loves science(!) - but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

But now I'm 11 chapters into "Circe" by Madeline Miller, which has been a wonderful journey so far. Miller knows her Classics! Highly recommend ๐Ÿ“š #books

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

There's been a mini trend of "classics retold from [some female character]'s perspective". I've read a few and this is best I've read. Her prose lives up to its promise. Have you read Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad?

But who knows. I don't know anything anymore.
