Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in Australia – worth not(ify)ing
Once upon a time, we grew viruses from sick patients' samples. This took an age, failed often, had low throughput and was not a good diagnostic tool. Then we developed PCR and could find RSV cases more quickly, among more people, more sensitively and very accurately. We've been doing that in Australia since the 1990s. Reporting of these detections only became…

So Nate Silver is now amplifying Paul Thacker.
Let me tell you who Thacker is.
He purports to be a journalist, but he’s a contributor to the Brownstone Institute, a far-right COVID conspiracy dark money group based in Austin, Texas. Brownstone was founded by Jeffrey Tucker, a longtime right-wing operative and advocate for child labor and youth tobacco use.
Thacker is also the Twitter Files “reporter” who uncritically amplified a BS claim that @taylorlorenz’s uncle owns the Internet Archive.

Once again a study showing interdisciplinarity is more likely to encounter delayed recognition and greater citation sustainability. Didn't read yet, but curious if this is a) simply true or b) has now become something that ppl want to believe and there's bias in the literature.
Looking forward to a critical meta-analysis in 10 years...

In October 2020, Lehrer transferred the music and lyrics for all songs he had ever written into the public domain.[64][65] In November 2022, he formally relinquished the copyright and performing/recording rights on his songs, making all music and lyrics composed by him free for anyone to use, and established a website (tomlehrersongs.com) from which all of his recordings and printable copies of all of his songs could be downloaded.[66] His statement releasing all his works into the public domain concludes with this note: “This website will be shut down at some date in the not too distant future, so if you want to download anything, don’t wait too long.”

It seems that the center of the industry is in Connecticut, while
"Traditionally, the forests of Connecticut, western Rhode Island and south eastern Massachusetts have yielded ample witch hazel to supply the mill. Because of fragmentation of forestland, witch hazel cutters (who typically contract with the mill to supply a fixed amount of witch hazel per season) have had to travel into western Massachusetts and southern Vermont and New Hampshire to obtain material."

I lay all nagoy to the ceiling, my gulliver on my rookers on the pillow, glazzies closed, rot open in bliss, slooshying the sluice of lovely sounds. Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh. The trombones crunched redgold under my bed, and behind my gulliver the trumpets three-wise silverflamed, and there by the door the timps rolling through my guts and out again crunched like candy thunder." etc. This became quite the popular occurence.
whether the Brother ever cottoned on or not we may never know, but his naps continued and the class was nay boring again. Until The Canterbury Tales...we took valium to liven it up. Much better read when older

in reply to Muse • • •Read Chaucer and Mallory, but not Beowulf. I do have a copy of Seamus' Heaney's translation on a bookshelf.
I'd heard a story that the Charm of Making recited in John Boorman's Excalibur is taken from Beowulf.

in reply to Muse • • •yep, AS dictionary (or as naughty children called it "The Arse Dick". oh my!) And the whoooole of the Canterbury Tales...all of them...reprinted in theire original form. "bulls pizzles!" we cried. We also learnt Latin from earlier years on, not much German and fuckall French. All of which one would think would be part of English Lit study but not at our school - i guess there's only so much one can cram into a few years.
It was a lotta fun, eventually @tomgrzybow@societas.online ;))

It's interesting how diverse English classes have been. French classes in the US seemed to be all mostly the same. "Voilà Monsier Thibaut!"
