How to install extra software, apps and games on SteamOS and Steam Deck
The Steam Deck with SteamOS (and other devices that will ship with SteamOS) use a locked-down filesystem, so installing extra software is a little different. Here's what you need to know in a simple to understand guide.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)

Icewind Dale 2 completable in Infinity Engine remake GemRB, plus Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition now playable
GemRB is a game engine remake of Infinity Engine used in games like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and Icewind Dale 2.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)
I tried #GemRB a couple of years ago but got the impression that it still wasn't a good experience, but still a curious experiment.
The worst part was how unstable it was, causing frequent crashes more often than the original game engines. This would be one of the most desirable traits, improved stability and crash management like you get with #OpenMW (The Morrowind open source engine project).
Has it gotten better? I can't seem to find any recent gameplay or reviews of it.

I feel like if I accomplish nothing else in life, I at least manage to get a few students a year to use password managers!
I personally use KeePass, which if combined with cloud storage (I use Nexcloud via @mayfirst) gets you the convenience of a cloud service without any company holding your keys.

Nvidia Just Solved A Huge Steam Deck Problem. What Happens Next?
Nvidia is committing to Steam Deck, but what kind of impact will this news have? I asked a few big names in the Linux community to share their thoughts.Jason Evangelho (Forbes)
On my Windows 10 machine, I can switch the audio output device by clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right. It brings up a list. This list contains eight (8) items, only two of which I frequently use, and some of which relate to software programs I no longer use at all.The list can only show four at a time. The two I use ("LEN" and "LG") are at opposite ends of the list, so I have to scroll every time.
Is there a way to reorder this list, and/or to rename the devices more helpfully?
I donโt know about reordering this list but you can disable sound devices you donโt use. I only use Windows on other peopleโs PCโs, so going from memory:
- Right-click the speaker icon
- Click sound settings
- Find manage sound devices
- For each device you want to disable, there should be a disable button
The disabled devices will be removed from this menu. To reenable, just go back to manage sound devices.
Hallo Friendica Profis,
- Was wรผrdet ihr generell am System optimieren bzgl. Friendica und dem System selber?
Den Artikel zu der Anleitung findet ihr hier: blogzwo.me/raspberry-pi/friendโฆ

microsoft has COMPLETELY REMOVED 3D word art functionality with NO replacement. my startup, Wordr (elevator pitch: it's like venmo for 3D text), relies on this. it works by running an AutoHotkey script on a windows 10 virtual machine over public facing RDP. thank god i haven't updated the VM in four years, or our USP would be gone

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐ง๐ฎ • • •Additionally, if someone wants to install multiple pieces of software at once, they can go on packagepicker.co and pick up what they want from the limited pool, the site will then generate a single command to run on the terminal (obligatory disclaimer to always be cautious of random scripts on the internet)
It's conceptually similar to Ninite on Windows
