Understand the various Arch Linux repos:

We need to remember that it is the United STATES. "State" is another word for country. Each state has the right to protect its citizens from an out of control federal power which threatens their well-being. Women, children, people of color, the queer community, the disabled, etc are all human and have innate human rights.

You have power within your particular state. Use it!

in reply to Muse

Waiting to hear plans for states to secede.
in reply to Muse

We have to be careful about States Rights. It is also being used to have the "right" to abuse trans children (among other things).

For states who care about all their citizens we need to make our own constitutions which are clearly about inviolable human rights. We want to include and protect, rather than exclude and abuse.

One very easy way to go about this is to start by simply ratifying the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights in your state. If enough states do this, it's on its way to becoming a Federal standard. This also means we can ally with other states (countries) both within our continent AND internationally who have also ratified it. This puts you in good company with countries like Finland, Germany, Japan, Liberia, New Zealand, and more.

When the original thriteen colonies of the US federated, it was then able to strike a treaty with France in order to better negotiate with Britain about their independence. This did result in a war, but steps were taken before hands were forced.

I’m pushed out another alpha release for my latest #GameJam project!

Devlog here: cryptidblade.itch.io/career-pa…

This is my longes stint of #GameDev yet, and I’m not stopping. I have been working on projects in #GodotEngine since last October, and I have 3 more jams planned over the next couple of months. Continuing to work on this last jam’s game is keeping the momentum going 💪

Also, if you didn’t know, I’ve been streaming ever so slightly more often on my #Owncast channel. So, stop by and say hey!

the queensland department of transport and main roads seems to be entirely aware that their poor font choice makes it borderline impossible to distinguish zero and O. yet they refuse to change it.

they are, however, confident that a pedestrian will be able to distinguish I and 1 on a vehicle that flies past them at 110km/h. a sickening display of hubris and recklessness.

in reply to Lynnesbian

i know someone who has a personalised QLD plate that contains a 0 and an O, something like "0H Y34H". there's a shopping centre with a licence plate recognition camera that frequently misreads it as "OH Y34H".

they have to press the intercom button and ask security to let them out because the boom gate won't open. security just opens the gate, even if they would have had to pay for parking because they were there for more than three hours. a blessing and a curse.

in reply to Lynnesbian

UK registration mark fonts (various have been used over the years, albeit with a similar overall look) have the same problem, however our registration marks have always had separate known groups of letters and numbers so its clear from the positioning whether the mark should contain a letter or number at that point..

in reply to Lynnesbian

We do this with ham radio call signs here in the U.S., and when I lived in Region 0 and got a ham radio license plate (I was in Iowa) it did indeed have a slash through the 0.

Hello everyone! We got a huge influx of followers thanks to @FediFollows, and were wondering: what content would you like to see?

Some examples are guides, gadget guts, CT scans, short-form videos, community content, and behind-the-scenes at iFixit, but we're open to (almost) everything.

Let us know!

We've adopted a new cat! Her name is Wren. She is 6 months old, has one eye, and is mostly blind. She's been with us since Saturday.

She is very smart and *intensely* cuddly. She also seems very confident and friendly, and once she's a bit more settled we're gonna try various training things to keep her occupied.

I use AntiX, by the way. On Asus N61 from 2010. And it works pretty fast. Not the only disto you can use on really outdated hardware, but still the best. The lightweight king!

My laptop is from 2013. It was OK back then. It's now running #Debian and works fine. It got an SSD a few years ago and a new battery last year.

It does all the things I need a laptop for and would be good enough for 99% of consumers.

Most people could greatly benefit in many ways from #Linux. What's a good way to get people to try Linux? Genuine question.

I'm very happy to remove the code from Lobsters for geoblocking the UK, and my thanks to everyone who contributed to making sense of it. I wrote up everything we learned about it and why the risk seems low enough now, hopefully it's useful to other communities: lobste.rs/c/xevn8a

Looking for recommendations for a fedi instance for a new alt in the short term (this instance might have an outage soon and might eventually shut down entirely)

Requirements:
- Akkoma preferred (reacts, quote posts, markdown, Fedilab compatible)
- Frontend shows public/unlisted posts to anonymous users (this instance doesn't do that and it's pretty annoying when sending links to my own posts)
- High level of federation (does not block too heavily, is not blocked too heavily) (I would be happy with my fedi.absturztau.be account if that instance didn't have so many instances blocking it ages ago and never reviewing that block)
- High character limit (at least 10K, but less than 2^31 so it doesn't crash Fedilab)
- Good selection of blobcat and/or neocat emoji

governments debating the Modern Era Encabulation and De-Legitimisation of Rarified Doggedismical Turbulence Bill (it's about partially subsidising two menopause drugs for women over 65)

The UK Online Safety Act goes into effect on Monday. At this time, Floofy.tech will not cease avilability in the UK, or operating. Roughly speaking, our stance is similar to that of Lobste.rs lobste.rs/s/ukosa1/uk_users_lo…

It's a fucking headache but frankly I don't believe there's a way for small sites/platforms to comply, as the law is simply not written with us in mind.
