in reply to Muse

Yeah, the bed fit right in. From outside it was just a relatively low box, inside it was softer than usual. The best of both worlds...

Commonly heard in this household:

"Aw sweety, what's up, have you been fed yet?"

Several voices from all corners of the house: "Yes! Don't let her scam you!"

Wrote a little interpreter in lua for @neauoire 's rejoice programming language today to decompress after exams. Its nice to write something fun again 😀

Link to the language spec(?): wiki.xxiivv.com/site/rejoice.h…
Link to the repo for the (admittedly quite shoddy) interpreter: codeberg.org/jeefle/rejonce

in reply to jeefle

I'll keep that in mind, still impressive that it can parse the And? function, and spawn the token and reach the correct result.

I was thinking, like could you do exit/[want-to-quit true], and request a quit programmatically?

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

you couldn’t do that yet, but I don’t think it would take too much effort to make it work, to be honest the repl was thrown together in probably about 30 seconds for this post, so I just added a check for if that was the input.

On parsing: the language does have weird bits to it and this was actually my first parser with infix operators so that’s where most of the work went, though I think there’s some funky stuff there, ex. Functions can be numerators

in reply to jeefle

why did it need infix parsers, for the ^? I'm curious. It's kind of concatenative.

in reply to jeefle

Just made it so it works that way 😀 one other fun thing too is that functions will be called as many times as their exponent, which doesn’t mean anything for exit but might be cool in The future
in reply to jeefle

Wow! this is amazing.

One thing I forgot to mention in the docs, is that numeric symbols are special. 4 is equal to 2^2 for example, and 1 is extra special because it's how things are erased.

Millionaire Tax Already Working

in reply to Muse

Ah. former CEO. Can Starbucks afford to further alienate their customer base as they have already alienated their workers?

Currently considering turning my website from a blog into a digital garden. I've decided against that in the past, mostly because I view my site as an outlet to share things with others rather than a public notebook (I have my agenda.org for notes on everything). But I've really enjoyed getting lost in the digital gardens I've seen online and it might even encourage me to write more.

I was asked to send the event a "logo" of the #Uxntal programming language that read well in a small resolution.

The full Uxn mascot looked too busy, I thought about sending one of @rek's turnips that we use in the docs. But it didn't look too good next to the other fancy serious logos(unfortunately Go wasn't on the list to outderp it).

I sent this.
This is the one.

i'm beginning to think that Smalltalk is literally the only language family that does booleans properly

lwn.net/Articles/1059177/

...ok, maybe Scheme and the Pascal family too, but none of them quite run with it like Smalltalk

i'm enjoying pokopia a lot, but i do have a complaint:

  • slungus: can you build me a thingy?
  • beep! the thingy looks like this. (popup that persists for ten seconds)
  • (i build the thingy)
  • you built the thingy!
  • beep! the thingy looks like this. (the popup from earlier)
  • quest complete! talk to slungus.
  • slungus: thanks for building the thingy!

I'm getting really worn down by the never-ending barrage of people pushing AI down my throat.

There are some roles where I can tolerate its usage, such as malware analysis and threat detection (protecting humans makes the downsides mildly palatable).

But for programming? It's still a hard sell

in reply to zstix

it's 2026 and I still have no clue what people use chatgpt for.

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

ah! I see now! Is this an out-of-the-box System 6 theme, or did it require lots of hacking together? (I’ve tried to get something like it working on Linux Mint XFCE4, with not much success). The Uxn programs look really great - I thought they must be System 6 programs, they fit so well.
in reply to Matt Gumbley

It wasn't hard to make, I wanted it to be pixel perfect, so I had to finesse things a bit. It adds about 2kb of overhead to a rom. You can see the navbar in the music player code here:
