#FensterFreitag from Fort de Chartres, So. Illinois, last fall.

I've been trying to do a new-to-me horror film marathon, and a few of the films reminded me of some of my shots from this place...I'd like to go back and take some more sometime.

Me additionally: I wonder if they're being ethical about it, training it just on their own data or something.

Uh...oh ๐Ÿ™ƒ

They're fully aware.

Even if you break one open and install an actual Linux distro, Chromebooks are still next to useless for gaming. Was there really a significant user base using Steam on Chromebooks beyond experimentation?

Discussions about digital sovereignty are ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Which countries lead the way?

@nextcloud created an Index ranking countries based on the relative presence of self-hosted tools across key application areas.

1. Finland ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ
2. Germany ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช
3. The Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

in reply to Claes de Vreese โ˜‘๏ธ

hmm, i skimmed through the limitations and couldn't see any comment on the topic of if the services hosted in a country are aimed at the people living in that country or for people in other countries.

i mean, there are some very popular data centers in finland, for example, but many of the clients are from other european countries. so the score for finland gets artificially inflated.

in reply to Turpakosketus etsii soittajia

@Stoori

Thanks for your interest in the research!

We tried to point out that location โ‰  ownership: A serverโ€™s IP may be in one country, while its users or data reside elsewhere. If a country outsources hosting, its index score may fall, while a country that hosts data from other countries sees its index rise โ€“ regardless of control or access.

Interesting. Looks like the blockquote element is missing width: 100% to look correct. I haven't seen this issue on other pages but it's probably because the parent element is display: flex.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron Thanks for the feedback. Yes, this could be an issue with the specific Ghost template I'm using. I will look further into it and bring it up in Ghost forum if there is an issue there.

Feeling like maybe I only post about Drop-In Time at the library when things go well. Today was an in-between day (and I have pictures).

You remember Tom from a month ago? He's been helping my friend paint his house a few doors down. He saw me outside and shouted down from the roof that his email wasn't working. I said we could work on that, but not now. This is him checking his text from me so that he can be sure I'm in his phone. Totally safe behavior.

in reply to Jessamyn

Steve has a shaky hand and can neither type the numbers in nor read them to me because he forgot his glasses.

Despite this, he is delightful company and when we finally make his FIRST CELL PHONE CALL EVER (and set up his voicemail, and write down EVERY password) we're both making too much celebratory noise for the library.

Earlier, Pat from last week dropped by with a loaf of cinnamon bread as a thanks for making her Windows laptop faster last week and I send Steve home with some.

I leave the library on time and go for a walk with my friend near the place where I am feeding my friend's cats. We go up the hill to where they tore that old house down and marvel at what the view must have been like. I still have a little numb spot at the end of my middle finger from pressing the power button for ten seconds at a time on Steve's phone. I put him in my contacts, just in case. EOM.

@dystopod Yes!! 100% I noticed recently a very big NFP in my country advertising for a role for an agriculture campaigner...the campaign was NOT about ending animal agriculture for environmental reasons but instead focused on switching from fossil fuels to renewables. It's just one part of it...so stupid!

Palm Oil Detectives reshared this.
