Today's little crawlies. The second one is a pipevine swallowtail, my favorite butterfly ๐Ÿ˜€ #california #nature

just googled "end of life" because i couldn't remember the URL for endoflife.date/ and the results were pretty depressing

usually google's all-knowing algorithm knows what i mean, like i'll look up "rust performance" and most of the top results are about the language rather than getting 120FPS in Tom Clancy's Rock Smasher

android phones were so bad for this a couple of years ago

nowadays you get at least five years (which is still nowhere near enough), but you used to have shit like "released with android 2.3.3, upgradable to 2.3.5 (or 2.3.6 on the US-exclusive T-mobile edition)"

sharing a fedi post with your friends is always great.

sometimes it's something normal like mastodon.unassuming.website and it's a quick-to-load mastodon instance

sometimes it's something like chat.anarchism.biz and it takes eight seconds to load pleroma

sometimes it's some shit like social.rolandtr808fuckers.online and it's a hacked up instance of misskey that takes fifteen seconds to render a loading spinner underneath five animated catgirl gifs

the above toot is not making a statement about any of the server softwares mentioned, i'm just listing them in order of obscurity for comedic effect

it's getting harder. I looked in a local shop and spotted pretzel sticks. Can't remember who the manufacturer was but saw that palm oil was on the ingredients list! Too many items now contain this, simply because it's cheaper, yet they increase the prices. Nothing more than greed.

I never actually knew what this is a reference now, upon attempting to install Tie Fighter on Windows 98

This is interesting. In my blogposts analyzing ATproto I had compared the shared heap vs message passing from a CS perspective

Ian Preston of Peergos did the actual formal mathematical proof of the incentive structure: peergos.net/secret/z59vuwzfFDpโ€ฆ

> It is interesting that this is independent of N. Let's say you have 1000 servers, and 1000 followers per user. Then the shared heap model uses about the same network bandwidth. With a small number of servers SH can be better, with many servers AP is better.

> The conclusion is that the shared-heap model builds in a structural incentive to keep M small, and thus has a natural centralizing force. Conversely there is an incentive in AP to keep F small.

Ie, there is a mathematical incentive in ATproto to only have a few large players.

Don't want ruin @Gargron sunday, but I think this good feedback.

Maybe something like this even exists already?

@Iwillyeah @ghost_letters I agree it's a long time, but this is why we should have better controls to limit harm from a soon-to-be-defederated instance (like no new follows from that instance, no interactions except for existing relationships) during the lead-up to full defed.

Ok. Can you point me in the right direction where I can look up a better taggable being?

Progress with the Liblast Ubershader.
Added wear, dirt and dust effects.
Added detail material, working on normal map mixing (argh!).

Hi all, we've made the decision to defederate with mastodon.cloud, due to the unfortunate neglect of the server. Mastodon.cloud was already limited by Fosstodon. We will complete the defederation in 72 hours. Please reach out to accounts you still follow on mastodon.cloud and encourage them to move, while you can still contact them as the defederation will break your follow.
in reply to Iwillyeah

@Iwillyeah @ghost_letters This is part of your duty to users of your own instance. If they recently moved to your instance, they shouldn't be stuck with you severing their relationships while they can't leave.

Still weird seeing sites like PCGamer and so on link to @gamingonlinux but continues to show Iโ€™m doing something right

@Friendica Support I can confirm a new release is on its way, probably a beta will be released next week and (depending on the feedback) a new stable release for both mobile (Android) and desktop (Linux, Windows, maybe MacOS) Will be published before summer.

U-Boot 2026.04 for #PineTab2 is now available!

It's recommended to upgrade to the latest for stability improvements. :blobcatsunglasses:

For WYSIWYG experience you also can use LibreOffice Writer. As I remember, it allow you to export to .md file...

And where is Apostrophe app?)

I've been bothered on whether I should go back to Linux or not.
On one side it's just too awesome and I don't need to develop here on why it is, but on the other side battery on my laptop and gaming on my desktop have just performed so much better on Windows, and it's difficult to justify the loss in efficiency for the terminal and additional privacy considering that I already barely have time to use my computers at all.
(I debloat my Windows so I don't have the Copilot slop and so on)
