The State Duma of the Russian Federation passed a bill to "completely ban transgender transition".
On June 14, 2023, during the first reading of the bill on the "total ban on transgender transition," the Minister of Health noted that in addition to the legislative initiative under discussion, he was conducting research work for conversion therapy. This issue was raised by Anatoly Wasserman, who was concerned that people with a "different idea" of their gender role need to be psychologically and psychiatrically "brought to reality." The Minister replied that work is already being done in this direction on the instructions of the President, and a corresponding institute is being created where other "behavioral disorders" and forms of antisocial behavior will also be addressed.
