7 code editors you can use for Vibe Coding.

in reply to It's FOSS

I tried vibecoding a simple Python script using Copilot; the result was terrible. The script was broken and its code messy. I had to debug issues and explain to Copilot how to properly structure code. The end result still required polish. Overall it didn't save me any time, quite the opposite.

Though considering the rate of progress, in a year or three it will likely become a viable method of creating software, if directed by an actual programmer who knows what they are doing.

This is a really excellent analysis of the opportunities and risks of an effort I'm involved with—ensuring tokenized cooperative ownership is widely available under US law: ownership.substack.com/p/shoul…

very cool analysis and a worthwhile project though! Thanks for sharing the link

A very fair question. Two things:

1) this proposal helps regularize the securities exemption for cooperatives in general, and it should thereby benefit cooperatives that don't use tokens

2) this is coming in the context of a legal regime that is widely whitelisting crypto activity. We want to ensure that, if that is the case, cooperatives are encouraged as a high-road tool for using tokens responsibly

NO KINGS 2.0 US Expatriates Melbourne Australia.
I was kind of wanting to hold the "NO KINGS since 1776" poster, but I gave away all my posters from the last NO KINGS event, and everything for this one except the latte poster. That's all right, I'm the only one who understood the latte poster.

it's part of an ongoing series of statue beheadings (Capt Cook and Queen Vic are also targets) as protest against the theft and colonisation of Aboriginal land. No-one minds the Irish lads using it for much the same purpose regarding their land.

in reply to Muse

Wow! I was going to say that around here there are many who do not like the Franciscian who established the California missions, Junipero Serra - who, by the way, is now an official saint of the Catholic church.

Anyway, I was going to suggest that no one would complain if the giant, weird statue of him on Interstate 280 were to be beheaded.

Apparently they did one better - they took the entire statute.

GenAI and what it does to the brain.

Truly excellent "long read" article about genAI and what it does to those who come to rely on it. Well researched, with insightful quotes from thoughtful people.

Good science/tech journalism used to be like that, but on AI topics this has become rare. So much easier for the salaried writer of a mainstream paper just to follow the hype.

The author, Sophie McBain, is listed as a "freelance writer" for Guardian, Times and New Statesman. I am glad she's kept her free mind.

after far too much time, i have now seen the entire star wars trilogy. i watched the 4Kxx versions, so i cannot speak to mr. lucas's true vision with the CGI snootles and that guy who shot that other guy.

quick reviews:

episode IV: a classic, the start is a little slow, but great all the way through, compelling characters and great (if infrequent) action scenes, endlessly quotable. 8/10

episode V: felt kind of meandering to me, they made C-3P0 way more annoying, and then introduced an insufferable little green man in case C-3P0 wasn't annoying enough, VFX have greatly improved however. 6/10

episode VI: my favourite, only just beating out VI, pretty much full throttle the whole way through, even better VFX (the bit where they're speeding through the jungle blew my mind), yoda is considerably less annoying to the point where i feel kinda bad about finding him so irritating before, would be perfect if not for the ewoks, they maybe shouldn't have let [spoiler] off the hook so easy though. 9/10
