The OS and databases will now contain age data that malicious actors could potentially use to narrow down the hunt for younger prey. This is the opposite of protecting children. It allows the developers and app stores to directly target children, too.

The video, at least as played back by Safari, annoyed me though. The lip-sync seemed off a bit, and was exacerbated by the rather abrupt frequent jump editing. The sync problem could be youtube vs. my playback, but somehow I don't think so.
@Greg A. Woods That would be YouTube's new system to keep people from downloading videos. DRIVES ME NUTS! Most videos have to be played for a few seconds, then rewound in order to get everything to sync up. Their algorithm has gotten worse as well. I can see why some people end up being taken into conspiracy theory hell. I end up NOT trying things, because they can end up polluting my feed.

I understand this is good news for people wanting to play multiplayer games but the thought of EA anti-cheat software running on my Linux PC does not bring me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Kernel level anti-cheat should not exist, especially if proprietary. You should not be required to install spyware to play a game. Cheaters exist, this isn't the way to deal with it. It's the equivalent of doing mass surveillance of everybody because some people are criminals.

@hiker My impression is that a lot of people would be upset with us if we published something claiming to be a "fediverse" tool, as if we own the fediverse. Of course, there's also not nearly the same amount of brand recognition for the fediverse as a concept. There are at least 3 unofficial symbol proposals and most people outside the fediverse aren't familiar with any of them.
@hiker Probably the body best suited to publish something like a fediverse share tool is the @swf. Regardless, I think we're well within our rights to publish a tool our users asked for, catered to our own platform. Not everything has to be for everyone. PeerTube has a PeerTube app and Sepia Search, nobody is upset (nor should they be) that those don't work with Mastodon.
it’s not really a ‘federated network’ if things don’t work across platforms? e.g Link type posts by Lemmy / piefed do not federate the url, trying to share cross platform is bad. Maybe a federated network should spend some time making things work
@ozzy @swf @hiker I think things work pretty well right now. You’ll never have 100% feature parity between platforms, sometimes it doesn’t even make sense. Some code forges now use ActivityPub between themselves, but I think most would agree it would be ridiculous to expect to be able to send a pull request to a code repository from Pixelfed or Mastodon. The important bits are the bits that are in common.
