Long before the Anzacs, April 25 was the day women in Australia got the right to vote
April 25 1896 was a significant date in the history of women’s legal rights in Australia. Two things happened on this day: women, including Aboriginal women, voted for the first time in Australia, thanks to a Constitutional Amendment passed by the South Australian parliament in 1894; and, in a world first, women in Australia became able to sit in parliament and participate in government.
The 1894 amendment wasn’t the first South Australian bill that gave women the right to vote, but it was the first to became law. So what was different this time?

Tomorrow I hope to add aspect ratio constraints and white point adjustment.
Good grief: I should probably put 90° rotation on the list somewhere, too. #iosDevelopment

A global juggling act: feeding the world, saving species - Palm Oil Detectives
Our planet is on the precipice of a sixth mass extinction event. But unlike the five previous mass extinctions, this one is man-made: a global biodiversity crisis in which species are disappearing three to 12 times faster than the “normal” rate of ex…Palm Oil Detectives
I started having regular problems with Dysautonomia (autonomic dysfunction) when I was going through menopause over a decade ago. I was rushed to the hospital a couple times with doctors worried that I might have had a heart attack. Even ten years ago people didn't know very much about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a connective tissue disorder, one aspect of which can be hypermobility. Now, and I mean only in the last year or so, like POTS--dysautonomia has often been found to be a comorbidity of EDS.
Dysautonomia also shows up in some people with long COVID and other diseases.
The graphic shows a collection of symptoms you may have with Dysautonomia. You are unlikely to have all of them. There is more than one type of Dysautonomia. But if you have a problem that has these symptoms and it is something of a mystery to your doctors, perhaps investigate this.

Hot take of the day: we could have stopped Adobe ages ago if GIMP had any other name.
GIMP is nominative determinism applied to open source. If Fedora was named FUCKBOI, it would have failed too.

I'm planning to make some merch for #Mastodon's 10th anniversary and I would like to gauge which products folks might be most interested in buying. Remember, it's all bespoke, I can't make everything. For the sake of argument let's assume you love the original design that for now I want to keep a surprise...

Hi friends, I’m hoping someone here may be able to help…
I have just one copy of my 2011 book, The Science of Kissing, published in Japanese. I would like to buy another to share with a friend in Japan, and do not know how to find it.
Mastodon has proven a very smart community, and I’d appreciate any guidance to point me in the right direction? Thank you. #books
Wow! Thank you all! I wasn't finding any of these & am excited I will able to send this as a gift. I greatly appreciate your help Mastodon & #bookstodon!
I do have a follow up...
My 2009 book, "Unscientific America"," coauthored with Chris Mooney, was translated to Chinese, but I have never seen that version. I assumed it would not be possible to locate. If anyone knows how to find a copy, I'd be excited to have one.
But most importantly, thanks again to all! /2
If it's still in print, they have it.

Thinking about switching to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS? Here are five reasons to do so and three reasons not to:

5 Reasons to Upgrade to Ubuntu 26.04 (and 3 Reasons to Stay Away)
Should you skip this new release or jump on the bandwagon and upgrade to 26.04? Let me help you with that.Roland Taylor (It's FOSS)
I will probably try it in a VM. However, I will wait until Mint incorporates it into their next LTS release before I do anything with it as daily use (and even then, I will test in a VM first to make sure it works well for my needs on my hardware).
I don't like the Gnome desktop and have not had good experiences with Ubuntu main since I tried 12.04 and 14.04 (I skipped 16.04, and 18.04 also did not work for me). Kubuntu is my back-up OS so I may upgrade that to 26.04

The second person is correct and linux being small on desktops is because it is not mass manipulation compatible.
Windows and MacOS are dumbing people down, making them use high tech that costs millions to make (the machines building computer parts are prohibitively expensive) without being aware of the labor that went into them.
Normalizing monopolists like microsoft or apple is just another way of making excuses for mass exploitation.
Microsoft and Apple need to be taken down.
