BINGO!!!

A wage for housework? India's sweeping experiment in paying women

In a village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a woman receives a small but steady sum each month - not wages, for she has no formal job, but an unconditional cash transfer from the government.

Premila Bhalavi says the money covers medicines, vegetables and her son's school fees. The sum, 1,500 rupees ($16: £12), may be small, but its effect - predictable income, a sense of control and a taste of independence - is anything but.

Her story is increasingly common. Across India, 118 million adult women in 12 states now receive unconditional cash transfers from their governments, making India the site of one of the world's largest and least-studied social-policy experiments.

Long accustomed to subsidising grain, fuel and rural jobs, India has stumbled into something more radical: paying adult women simply because they keep households running, bear the burden of unpaid care and form an electorate too large to ignore.

Someone takes a photo and posts it online. They didn't photoshop something crazy into it, they didn't add any text, they didn't juxtapose it with another image to make a point. It's not a gif or screenshot or a piece of stock photography. It's just a photo they took.

That photo is not a "meme." Even if it's clever. Even if it's funny. It's their work.

Don't fuckin' repost it without credit. Don't pretend like you took it.

Hold… I need a cup of coffee to see this.

Ok, I like the idea. I liked webrings on their day and I remember well why they failed. Some people just removed the core to get the trafic just for themselves.

I think Stumbleupon was better. I would rather recreate that concept, at least now.

Progress in the (tech) art departament.

Rendered with 4xMSAA (no TAA etc.).

I found that Screen-Space Roughness limiter can introduce blocky artifacts. I suppose it's because derivatives work in quads (4 pixel groups).

It's probably content-specific but the effect is ON by default, and so you might have had stairsteppy artifacts and not known where do they come from.

This is Godot 4.5.1 stable on Arch Linux. Haven't tested in 4.6 beta yet.

@godotengine WDYT?

i can't believe how many people are flocking to closed source chrome forks like Vivaldi in the light of Firefox's AI stuff, when stuff like Waterfox is right there

For the record, Waterfox has said not to use AI: waterfox.com/support/ai-chatbo…
"Waterfox does not include a built‑in AI chatbot integration. If you want AI assistance in the browser, you can install a compatible extension from Firefox Add-ons."

if you want to actually keep using Firefox and not some closed source Chrome fork, try Waterfox

I've finally switched to the @Vivaldi browser. I've been using Firefox for as long as I've been on the internet, but the focus on AI means it's no longer the browser for me. Thankfully unlike Chrome, Vivaldi supports the uBlock Origin extension which is the most important extension for being able to browse the web nowadays.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Hopefully it will still be possible to use uBO on Vivaldi… 😟
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Unlike chrome UngoogledChromium also supports UBlock and it can be sideloaded.

Vivaldi sends a unique user ID to its servers every 24 hours.

UngoogledChromium sends

NOTHING home.

I notice people posting about trying to get a job, so here's hoping that an appropriate candidate reads this.

My employer is looking for someone with devops skills (Linux, databses, networking and development) who's willing to work in Singapore.

The job involves supporting customers (mostly banks) running financial software.

Let me know if you want to know more.

Not sure what hashtag to use for this, so feel free to boost.

WOW! Facebook is testing limiting the number a links people can share without a Meta Verified subscription.

Some users will be limited to sharing just TWO links per month in organic posts, without a Mera Verified account!

Meta confirmed the following to me:

“This is a limited test to understand whether the ability to publish an increased volume of posts with links add additional value for Meta Verified subscribers.”

@torproject Hello TorProject, with the new AI-addicted Firefox CEO getting into office, I was thinking - what browsers are there that respect their user's privacy? Naturally Tor pops to mind, but some times the Tor network is slow and a lot of critical use cases don't trust it (banks etc) so I was wondering: Is it possible to use Tor exactly as it is minus connecting to the Tor network? If not why not?

If you are looking for a browser with similar privacy protections to Tor Browser that doesn't use the Tor network, we recommend Mullvad Browser from @mullvadnet

What it takes to run a sub 3:30 Marathon?

The last running plan that I finished this year was a 22 weeks Marathon plan, below are some stats:

Total distance: 1,388 km
Total time: 136:45:16
Strength training: 1,027 sets total
Fastest avg pace: 4:29 /km
Longest run (not race): 32 km
PBs: 5k @ 20:10

I finished the race strong in 3:29:38 as planned with 1.5% negative splits. I was very happy with how the entire race went, my fueling strategy, and everything in between 😀

I'm now chasing a sub 3 hrs PB. Do you think it's realistic?
What is your next race / running goal?

#running #marathon

in reply to Moha

From 3.30 to sub 3 is a mighty jump - but if that your goal then go get it 🏃🏻
in reply to Lee

@Lee6 I know, I actually think my chances are below 50% to make that happen. But the bigger the goal the more it's motivating.
@Lee

Someone please do me a favor, if you’re motivated — download and play this for me: xra.itch.io/uji. As I’m not on Windows or Linux it is not available to me. But the author is responsible for Memory of a Broken Dimension, so I’m very curious about it. 🥲

it works with wine fine, if you're on apple, that should run alright.

The United Kingdom is coming back to Erasmus+!

Negotiations for the United Kingdom’s association to Erasmus+ in 2027 have been concluded.

It will offer significant opportunities across education, training, sports, and youth, giving people the chance to connect across borders once again.

This follows the EU-UK Strategic Partnership agreed at the first ever Summit in May.

A step forward for youth, education, and cooperation, together again. 🤝

in reply to Veza85UE

@Veza85UE @po3mah @Tarbh I would like the UK to rejoin. We have shared history, shared interests, and shared families. By all means, clown on Cameron, Farage, Johnson and May, but there's no reason to punish people who wanted to remain in the EU.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron @po3mah @Tarbh Our shared history in the EU is not one of kumbaya and happy clappy cooperation, why pretend otherwise? Do you miss their EUCO veto ? For all the great work of a handful of civil servants and judges who understood the 🇪🇺 project and built the Single Market, Brits NEVER accepted what the EU is.* I lived there at the time, I have enough reasons to doubt this notion of a few bad apples. The sense of entitlement and exceptionalism is pervasive in both camps.

Enough people have taken this premise apart that I don't have to do a whole thread on it.

But I did want to point out this paragraph, that is one of the most Anti-African things I've read recently.

This long-termism and great replacement nonsense is seeping into brains and cooking them.

It's rather very ironic that the author argues about not having new ideas in an article based on mostly disproven or at best controversial and conspiracy ideas. Cringe 😬
