In the first years I moved to Austalia the Federal government passed a law with support from both Labor and Liberal politicians which limited truth in advertising laws such that they did not apply to political speech. This was used in the upcoming election to misrepresent small parties and take their seats.

Is this Democracy? The Welsh have the right idea!

Law to make it illegal to lie in Welsh elections passed

The Welsh Parliament has passed a law to make it illegal for candidates to lie during Senedd elections.

The new law paves the way for a new criminal offence to make false or misleading statements of fact to help an election candidate...

The bill also establishes a recall system, giving the public the opportunity to kick out politicians who have misbehaved from the Welsh Parliament in between elections.

GOOGLE STALKING YOU WITH YOUR BIOMETRICS IS THE SCAM

giving up my biometric "data" as the price of sideloading, makes android ransomware at best. at its worst, it’s a new form of indentured servitude for the privilege of using an android phone controlled by Google.

YOUR BIOMETRICS MAKE YOU A HOSTAGE OF THE COMPANY DEMANDING THEM

do you see now why the USMIL’s Total Information Awareness project doesn't exist anymore? instead we got corporate “social media” doing the dirty work.

Biometrics are stored locally on the devices. I'm not sure if I understand your point about making users hostage. Can you elaborate?

Google has news on what you will need to do for still being able to sideload apps:

* enable developer options
* confirm that you are not tricked
* restart phone and re-authenticate
* wait one day
* confirm with biometrics that you know what you are doing
* decide if you only want unrestricted installs for 1 week or forever
* confirm that you accept the risks
* enjoy the few apps that still have developers motivated to develop for a user-base willing to put up with this

I'd love it if those animations were looping.

happy you like these 😀 they are, but there's a brief pause between each animation cycles, otherwise some monsters just look a bit too twitch.

Made something this morning with my hands. Something simple. Something human. Something pure and powerful. Something I wholeheartedly own.
Thanks to some inspiration and guides from @rek and @neauoire
Did my own take on it and figured it out.
In those 20 minutes or so that it took to put it together my mind was clear. Spirits were high.
Cutting the plies between the pages gave me a strong dose of nostalgia back in school when our textbooks sometimes had pages still together and got missed in the separation process. We would tear them ourselves with our rulers. The sound of the paper tearing, the jagged edge of the page. The little paper dust left on the table. These are the things that bring me calm and happiness.

it's a meditative activity, I make 3-4 at a time when I need new notebooks.
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

it was more meditative and engaging than i expected. definitely a fun lil arts and crafts activity that i will for sure do more of. this was just a quick poc with what i had lying around. a great alternative for that bone fold thing would be just a guitar pick, that's what i used and it worked great.

Friend also suggested letter press when i told him about it which then lead me to lino pressing which i will definitely explore as well 🙂

always fun to find new handcrafting hobbies

I ran Arch for years, but eventually I got tired of having to periodically spend hours figuring out how to fix a broken update or a busted AUR package.

I've since moved on to LMDE7 because I just want my computer to "work" - I don't want to have to work extra hard to make that happen. Sorry Arch!

haven't had a broken systems update on arch in 5 years. And back then I was a noob and had to wipe and try again xD

Currently my PC laptop is running Linux (MX Linux). It’d be nice to have both my laptops much more under my control.

Mac users that also use Android, how do you transfer files and such? No MPT on the Mac that I can tell and the app I've tried, OpenMTP, is an Elektron app that I don't feel like dealing with.

in reply to Devin Prater :blind:

I'm no longer a mac user but I never found a reliable way to do this when I was. These days on Android to Linux I use PlainApp: f-droid.org/packages/com.ismar…

It should work exactly the same way for any OS. You transfer through browser and only need to be on the same WiFi. It's a brilliant piece of software.

Your AI chatbot may be stealing your conversations.

Many #BigTech platforms:
• use chat inputs for training
• store conversations indefinitely
• process data in centralized clouds

What does that mean for #dataprivacy?

We break it down 👇
nextcloud.com/de/blog/the-prob…

in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Are conversations used for training by default and is opt-out genuine or buried? How long is data retained and under what legal jurisdiction? What happens to your data if the company is acquired?
in reply to bayo

Hi there!

Is your question about AI tools in Nextcloud? If yes: we are not an AI provider, and everything depends on the model or service you are using with Assistant.

On our end, we let people choose, and rank supported models exactly by those parameters: training data availability, open source code, ability to host locally. And you can avoid setting up AI at all, if you don't want it in your platform.

Opera GX is now available for Linux gamingonlinux.com/2026/03/oper…

#OperaGX #Opera #Browsers #Linux

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

While nobody should use the Opera browser it is nice that more companies are supporting Linux and these kinds of things also makes Linux look more legitimate as a gaming option.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

yeah, Opera isn't exactly what a privacy-conscious person would use, but Linux is freedom and freedom mean options.

And also, privacy is a spectrum, if Opera GX being available on Linux means more people will jump ship, then that's a big win.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the brands owned by ultracorporations? (Unilever, nestle, P&G, etc)

Or better yet, a downloadable database that I could work with.

And so the information diaspora continues.

Outpost Moved its Servers to the E.U.

A few weeks ago, Outpost migrated its servers, including our databases, to Amsterdam, away from servers in the U.S. So now all member publishers' data, servers and CTA infrastructure are hosted there...

We made the move because well, ((WAVES HANDS WILDLY AROUND)), it seems like a prudent step. Prudent being the word of the day here.

Just to be clear, Outpost has never had a data request, subpoena or National Security Letter dropped on us for our data or any member publisher's data.

But we still thought this was a prudent step given the current political environment...

in reply to Frigid Crystal Tormented Wrath

what if enemies counter player moves (either by behaviour or by which enemies show up) relative to how often you use them? So if you use a move all the time, your enemies always block against it. it's strong, but not useful until the enemies don't know it's coming.
in reply to Frigid Crystal Tormented Wrath

Put yourself on the players' shoes. Do they HAVE a reason not to just spam a single move? I mean, if your game is a z2h then using the best becomes mandatory.

You could go for the "attack chain" approach, and have all moves have different buffs/debuffs as long as you don't mind "Five Moves of Doom."

Or yes, like you said, you can give XP bonuses based on variety a-la DMC.
