Throwback to when my dad built their 18 year old cat a little ramp so he could keep sleeping in his favorite spot on top of the dryer 🥺🥺 #CatsOfMastodon #Caturday

Was refilling spice jars. Mostly went okay.

Don't ask.

This is an ad. BUT it's of RALPH and BELLA from Half-asleep Chris!
The Bella plushie is soooooooooo cute! The temptation is high, but I don't need more plushies.

Similarly, the fork #LibreOffice was created in 2010 by @tdforg based on predicting the future risk.

I really want to be interested in this "dark forest theory of the internet" but just listened to their podcast about the economics of it and they just went on and on about using substack and discord as if that was somehow revelatory? I couldn't get the point of what they were saying at all. Then they talked about how charging for membership of their closed group didn't really make money but helped weed people out, with no consideration that some people don't have spare cash? Then went into crypto and I tuned out but there was something about tax..

Anything Metalabel touches is a grift. This feeling you describe "I really want to be interested ..", is their main product. They were huge during the NFTs era, they're trying to find how to still be relevant.

@neauoire I find their stuff really interesting and I take it more as coming from the perspective of a lot of people working in various art/culture industries where tech is not necessarily a person’s strength or focus, and these are the tools that are being commonly used to cobble together a way to make a living from all of it online. They were on the nft train but seemed like one of the few that believed there could be something real in it in terms of new opportunities for creative work (and have since moved away from those ideas that didn’t pan out)

Hello world! We are Modal, a new collective born out of the local Berlin community around Linux infrastructure. We're involved in projects like GNOME, postmarketOS, p2panda, and systemd.

We organize the #BoilingTheOcean events, and work upstream on a number of difficult problems in emancipatory computing, including local-first networking, mainline Linux on phones, and platform security.

Our long-term goal: A free software platform that's competitive with the iPhone 🌈

Last summer there was this person on the plan 9 list like that, and I remember it made it all feel kind of hopeless, when even in spaces so far removed from the mainstream, you still end up at the end of the spear.

New addition to the display: a #Mastodon #Plushtodon! 3rd new item in the past year... I got the bald eagle at Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria, Oregon and the kangaroo at Port Campbell National Park in Victoria, Australia. The Linux Tux penguins and XCOR Lynxes are all more than a decade old. The Plushtodon was shipped from Germany - but I didn't go there to get it. #SocialMedia

There was a minor fad in the 1920's for player piano add-ons, that were on wheels and you pushed up in front of the piano. They took a standard player piano scroll and had (usually only 55) fingers that pushed on the piano keys to play it, so you could get one if you already had a piano but wanted the latest thing in self-playing. They didn't have rotary pedals, but ones more like a stairmaster, which drove a rotary element that ran three air pumps. Three for the same reason industrial power is three phase: because when you have three air systems firing evenly, you always have a stable amount of energy, either electrical or vacuum, coming out, where single and two phase systems have points at which the energy production drops to zero briefly so you have to provide some sort of energy storage.
