Nicely done website! It's like a zine. Though your Mastodon profile is missing from your contact links at the end. I think my favourite shot has got to be the yellow train, followed by the umbrella and the shelves with potted plants.

@Gargron Oh the link is back, my bad! Thank you so much for taking the time to browse through my shots, really appreciate it! 🙇‍♀️

Germany arrests self-declared 'king' and bans his extremist group

Peter Fitzek, 59, was among those arrested in morning raids across seven states on Tuesday, which involved about 800 security personnel.

The government banned their group, the Reichsbürger, or "citizens of the Reich", which seeks to establish the Königreich Deutschland, or "Kingdom of Germany".

Alexander Dobrindt, German's interior minister, accused the group of attempting to "undermine the rule of law" by creating an alternative state and spreading "antisemitic conspiracy narratives to back up their supposed claim to authority".

His ministry announced the dissolution of the group, and accused it of financing itself through "economic criminal structures".

in reply to Joseph Teller

They are a lot more dangerous than that @Andrew Pam since they are more in the camp of armed militias and a possible wedge tool for Putin against the government to use the way he used a small group of separatists inside of Ukraine as a tool and excuse for war.

Airbnb is launching a major redesign and new initiative today with the ability to book services and experiences in a new, unified UI.

We got a demo last week, and it looks excellent. I *love* the new (skeuomorphic?) iconography and the redesigned trip timeline.

Too bad Airbnb has wrecked the housing market. It's so difficult to enjoy technology today.

Montreal has now implemented strict rules for temporary accommodation that partly avoid impacts on housing market:

A few takeaways from my research:

1 - Not one staffer said they’d turn to scientists first when facing a science-related question.

2 - Party leadership, lobbyists, and trusted friends-of-friends often have more influence than peer-reviewed studies.

3 - Scientists are unintentionally sidelining themselves by only engaging with one side of the aisle.

You might want to reach out to archeaologist Flint Dibble, who has had some success countering misinformation by, among other things, engaging with Grant Hancock on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Not without pushback, pof course. But he’s trying hard to get other archeaologists on board with public education and countering misinformation, which seems to be part of the larger problem.

In uncertain times, we can only count on resilient tech 💪

Privacy regulation landscape between US and Europe is fragile, and frameworks like DPF may not withstand the changes to the laws across the ocean. What does this mean for business?

I respect 8BitDo for their controller variety and modernization of old controllers, but their D-pads suck ass, giving way to dual inputs when rocking or rolling on one direction.

I was given a Barney doll on my second birthday. According to my parents, I set it down on the coffee table, took a step back, and held an excited look of anticipation for several seconds.

You see, in the original VHS tapes, Barney was a doll that the kids would set down on a table, and then he transformed into the full-sized Barney. I clearly thought my real-life Barney doll would do the same thing.

I'm not sure I've ever recovered from this betrayal.

“I listened to NSF staff say DOGE had the authority to give thumbs up or down to grant applications which had been systematically vetted by layers of subject matter experts.

Our closed-to-the-public deliberations were observed by Zachary Terrell from the DOGE team. Through his Zoom screen, he showed more interest in his water bottle & his cuticles than the discussion. Terrell..accessed the NSF awards system to block the dispersal of approved grants.“

The marine bacterium Alcanivorax borkumensis feeds on oil, multiplying rapidly in the wake of oil spills, and thereby accelerating the elimination of the pollution, in many cases. It does this by producing an “organic dishwashing liquid” which it uses to attach itself to oil droplets. Researchers from the Uni Bonn , RWTH, @HHU and #FZJuelich have now discovered the mechanism by which this “organic dishwashing liquid” is synthesized. fz-juelich.de/en/news/archive/…
