That's the "we are fine with supporting right wing idiots" company, right?
I guess that issue hasn't been resolved by them?
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Yes, but have they stopped supporting racists yet? Also, their โ€œbusiness supportโ€ is terrible, please hire more support people outside of the Pacific time zone. Edit: Nope, still see Hyprland and Rails in there.

My first computer was a VIC-20. I stuck with DOS as long as I could, then shifted to Slackware. Didn't even start launching X frequently until 2007.

We need to talk about ร†on Flux.

I see a lot of people talking about fighting fascism or discussing #anarchy but no one seems to remember the icon that was Aeon.

I remember watching this episode "Thanatophobia" (S03E03) back in 1995 and this opening scene punched me in the face the same way 30 years later.

If you've not watched ร†onFlux I recommend it. I still hum this to myself all these years later.

It's anarcho-biopunk-core with #CyberPunk elements and much more.

#AeonFlux #Animation #90s

in reply to occult

Watching it today, I get the sense that the world depicted would incorporate collapse computing or #permacomputing.

See wiki.xxiivv.com/site/collapse_โ€ฆ and wiki.xxiivv.com/site/permacompโ€ฆ for explanations courtesy of @neauoire for more info.

The stories and characters are nuanced, have extreme depth and surprising relevancy to our world 30 years later. It's required multiple viewings over decades to grasp it all and apply it to the context of the present.

It's worthy of a complete viewing every ten years.

in reply to occult

It has been so long since I thought about it, it's time for a rewatch. Thanks for the idea :ytv:

Day 8 of #DecemberAdventure

I took a risk and sidequested today.

Guessed I came to a point where I need to do some narrative writing for my dungeon crawler and took the chance to look at ink script, some kind of markdown for interactive fiction. I ended up re-programming the BASIC version of the crawler in ink script. But it's really fun, like writing pseudo code, that can actually run.

The process helped me tremendously in figuring out how to interlock the two core mechanics with the narrative and create a game loop that progresses the player towards different ends. Now I need to fill in the details.

For months I've been thinking to clear away and replant the spaces fenced off for the Green curtain. I got started a few days ago and the birds were quick to start enjoying the new dirt with fresh pickings, I guess there are a lot of worms and bugs and grubs for them along with any remaining green leaves..

Silky Hens, Jidori Chicks, Falcon...

It seemed like a crow didn't like all the hysterics either and tried to chase the falcon off for a while..

The Miyazaki Jidori fighting birds seem half-wild compared the silkies. They disappear into piles of brush, or flatten themselves under fallen branches.. fascinating..

in reply to jt

I haven't noticed the falcon since putting the string up, but I haven't been around at that time of day either.. Maybe it was the falcon that got the biggest chick, the Miyazaki Jidori rooster. One evening he just wasn't around anymore and he strayed farthest from the hen.. I suspected Maron since she killed Seven the Turkey chick and ate the head off LaBuBu the Silky rooster chick... But I didn't see any dark feathers or body parts around Maron's place so it the Jidori rooster was probably taken by the falcon or a cat.. The adult hens seem pretty good at protecting the chicks, if the chicks stay close enough.. the Jidori hen (I think) chick is getting big and quick.. Once the Jidori chicks get big enough I imagine they'll be even stronger than the Silkies at protecting themselves...

Wanted to do something easy for #DecemberAdventure today.

Ended up updating the #uxn flake to the latest commits and also implemented a derivation for drifblim!

Though the assembler and the insanely long file paths that nix relies on do not mix, so the assembler is not viable to use in a derivation just yet.

Also, it depends on the uxn-sdl2 derivation and I would rather it be as detached as the other packages. There will probably be an attempt to build uxnmin with tcc for it, then implementing the bootstrap.

git.sr.ht/~nojusr/uxn-nix
kelp.lt/technical/decadv_2025/โ€ฆ

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

reason why i didn't do it today was that drifblim has a buffer of 3f set for i/o filepaths, while files of nix derivations are stored in folders with hashes for names, resulting in the seed rom throwing a path length err

link you posted was the reference i was going off of

should be fine if i just patch drifblim to have a bigger buffer for those, but that's for tomorrow, gotta be up in 6 hrs :neofox_melt_sob:

This entry was edited (1 week ago)
in reply to kelp

there's no drifblim in the link I posted, it uses drifloon, which works with uxnmin and takes a file content instead of a filepath. Uxnmin has no file device, and compiles well with tcc.

Over the weekend, the GreenPill podcast dropped this conversation I had with one of the governance technologists I admire most, former Taiwan digital minister Audrey Tang: pod.link/1609313639/episode/NWโ€ฆ

It is pretty sci-fi. But in times like these, sci-fi is at least part of what we need.

in reply to Nathan Schneider

I remember attending a talk by Audrey Tang, where they talked about how the they and the TW government went after people spreading "COVID misinfo". They started off well, countering it with more speech. But then, Audrey was vague about what happened afterwards, hinting at something but not saying exactly what.
I don't trust people like that w.r.t. governance.

The Jolla Phone could be a valuable alternative to Android, especially now that Android is moving toward a closed-source model. However, Jolla will need significant support from the community, as most users tend to gravitate toward mainstream platforms. Let's keep an eye on it and see how things unfold.

after system five was always written in roman letter system V it can only mean
system 500 ( due to 500 services for the smalles Linux ever). However 500 by the romans was a D ( surprised?)

I always assume it was a French reference. "Systรจme D" means that you make it as you can.

D is for "dรฉbrouille" implying lake of means and not the best results but a lot of ingeniosity (is it a word? Smart hacks) in the process.
