Your AI chatbot may be stealing your conversations.

Many #BigTech platforms:
• use chat inputs for training
• store conversations indefinitely
• process data in centralized clouds

What does that mean for #dataprivacy?

We break it down 👇

in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Were people meant to think the data they gave chatbots was private? Should I be surprised Google keeps records of search queries and Facebook keeps records of posts? Wait until you hear how "private" email is
in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Are conversations used for training by default and is opt-out genuine or buried? How long is data retained and under what legal jurisdiction? What happens to your data if the company is acquired?

Opera GX is now available for Linux gamingonlinux.com/2026/03/oper…

#OperaGX #Opera #Browsers #Linux

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

While nobody should use the Opera browser it is nice that more companies are supporting Linux and these kinds of things also makes Linux look more legitimate as a gaming option.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

yeah, Opera isn't exactly what a privacy-conscious person would use, but Linux is freedom and freedom mean options.

And also, privacy is a spectrum, if Opera GX being available on Linux means more people will jump ship, then that's a big win.

If you're torn between Ghostty and Kitty, read this before you switch.

I’ve tried both and prefer Kitty, but I concede it is subjective. Maybe I just like the name Kitty. Still, I think the overall look of Kitty is better.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the brands owned by ultracorporations? (Unilever, nestle, P&G, etc)

Or better yet, a downloadable database that I could work with.

And so the information diaspora continues.

Outpost Moved its Servers to the E.U.

A few weeks ago, Outpost migrated its servers, including our databases, to Amsterdam, away from servers in the U.S. So now all member publishers' data, servers and CTA infrastructure are hosted there...

We made the move because well, ((WAVES HANDS WILDLY AROUND)), it seems like a prudent step. Prudent being the word of the day here.

Just to be clear, Outpost has never had a data request, subpoena or National Security Letter dropped on us for our data or any member publisher's data.

But we still thought this was a prudent step given the current political environment...

they give about 1 millionth of what they spend to open source to fix an issue they create - how dare they give so little. No, it's not enough.

you could also have moves feed into each other if theyre different like a combo, so its got more synergy to alternate them and the effect can be greater than individual moves powers
in reply to Nightfoldress 六七

@desea could also experiment with adding status effects that could create synergies with other moves or other characters
in reply to Frigid Crystal Tormented Wrath

what if enemies counter player moves (either by behaviour or by which enemies show up) relative to how often you use them? So if you use a move all the time, your enemies always block against it. it's strong, but not useful until the enemies don't know it's coming.

Our possums are a problem. Could Selena Gomez be the solution?

possum and gomez

Last year, American pop star, actor and beauty mogul Selena Gomez launched a surprising new expansion of her empire: Oreos. The chocolate and cinnamon limited-edition creme cookies, described as “flavour-forward and horchata-inspired”, popped up in hypnotic displays in supermarkets across the country in July, complete with a giant rotating cookie that simply read “Oreo Selena Gomez”. The promotional material claimed the cookies were “great for movie night, and make wonderful birthday treats and music awards watch party snacks”.

What neither Selena Gomez nor Big Oreo could ever have anticipated is that these cookies, which feature music-themed designs including “Selena in the Studio” and “Play Your Heart Out”, would become a crucial weapon in the war against one of Aotearoa’s most infamous pests.

in reply to Muse

“People have tried to use Tim Tams in the past, but they are really expensive. Oreos are quite a bit cheaper, and they actually stand up to the rain quite well too, which is a little disconcerting.”

"The bottom line is this: You write in order to change the world, knowing perfectly well that you probably can’t, but also knowing that literature is indispensable to the world. The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it… If there is no moral question, there is no reason to write. I’m an old-fashioned writer and, despite the odds, I want to change the world."

James Baldwin

@Kenny Chaffin i like his four motivations - pretty much a "have at it! for whatever reason."

Well, I have now been quoted calling SpaceX "fuckweasels" in a real publication by real journalists: au.pcmag.com/ai/116598/spacex-…

I guess I am proud of myself? (They are, indeed, fuckweasels, for their complete lack of care for the atmosphere that we all depend on, as well as not caring about Kessler Syndrome, or light pollution, or smashing people on the ground...)

Facebook shutting down its Horizon Worlds VR Metaverse

#Computers #Metaverse #VR #Facebook

in reply to Joseph Teller

Metaverse is what happens when a techbro is so ignorant (but I'm being redundant), that they don't realize video games already exist.

And I mean ... not just Second Life, although that's the most funny comparison. Any random video game's lobby like ... already did all this stuff and made Meta look so primitive and "Huh?"

Check out those whiskers! This little harbour seal was picked up by my team in October. Found on a beach with a life threatening condition (mouth rot), he was uplifted and taken to a sanctuary for rehabilitation.

He has a special place in my heart as this was my first rescue. 10/10 perfect gentleman, didn't fight/bite me!

He was recently released into the wild, and is out there somewhere living his best life 🦭

i had a large stash of arches cold press 140lb watercolor paper that lasted me 9 years(!!)… but finally had to buy some new sheets today. having a meltdown because the paper is different now. different texture, different color. there are weird imperfections in the fiber. AND it was more expensive… cant even find anyone online talking about this. what the fuck, man...
in reply to l̸̹̍̀a̸̜͋̐͜k̴̼͗̽͆̈́ḛ̵͗̈́ͅ

I don't use much but bought some last year and found it very good. I'm still using it. So perhaps a bad batch? Even good manufacturers have off-days.

I think it's worth writing to them and complaining – they are a small(ish) company who take pride in their product so I'd say they might try to make amends.

in reply to Fionnáin

@ephemeral I think it is definitely still really nice paper!! and I doubt I’ll switch brands because they’re still (afaik) the best paper around… just definitely markedly different from the arches i was using. maybe i should email them to see what’s up
