@zaire @SymTrkl originally it was ~4.5GB. when roxie added her edits and reexported it, she chose a super high bitrate (because she has Video Quality Autism) and yeah 16GB movie
@SymTrkl how was this encoded. i know video editors tend to have dogshit export options so thats that, i can assume something like nvenc (with bad defaults)

incredible stuff, great work! it's inspired me to think about some edits for my in-group popular films (twilight, national treasure, hackers)... the fact that you have to restrain yourself for the first half is SO funny to me.
I'm thinking also of good framing devices that let you get away with more - Noodle's "lost VHS tape" is a good bit, you could also do "whoops I accidentally downloaded a foreign release" (lets you sneak in a bunch of subtitle gags), or "well it turns out this is a dodgy camrip" (make the screen shake increase more and more as the movie goes on)

for anyone wondering why the ending cards say "what he believed to be obi-wan's death"... i genuinely didn't realise obi-wan died in this movie. i thought he just teleported away, and that was why luke could still hear him.
i didn't even know about force ghosts being a thing. the idea to have a transparent PNG of obi's face appear whenever he talks was my own thing.

so my family watched all the star wars movies within the last 6 months (for my kids, it was the first time). i am SCHEMING about how i get them to watch this version without giving anything away, because i want SO BADLY for them to be more and more "wtf" as it goes on. I think I need to sit on it a year before trying it out, but how do i avoid suspicion when the normal way is just to hit up streaming?

From reading the post, it's not made clear that shell-specific configuration files should be, and, in fact are, defined per shell. A user was always required to know this, even for sh and csh,.
Also, isn't there already a mechanism for setting user environment variables via systemd? I could be wrong, so could others execute "man environment.d" clear that up for me?

The existence of Desktop Environments. Would have saved me from distro hopping from one flavor to the next. If I would have known better, I'd have stuck with Linux Mint and just installed it with the XFCE Desktop Environment. Oh well. Now I know better and try to inform new users of them before trying other flavors.
@mrgrumpymonkey For beginners, I understand that the issue of whether it’s possible to install other desktop environments is important, provided it’s made clear that, as a rule, the distro’s default desktop environment is fine-tuned in a way that’s often difficult to achieve with desktop environments installed by the user.
Teaching yourself how to install and use Linux in the early 90's was very difficult, and there were few resources available to get answers. Today, many distros are practically a forehead install (smack keyboard with forehead and distro installed).
You can take your SSD or HD put it in another computer and it will just work*. (Windows won't and will likely notify you you're using unlicensed software).

Two things. The man pages are actually good. My experience with GNU/Linux improved tremendously when I learned to integrate man pages into my day to day.
Second, related to the first and generally good "tool" advice. Don't fight Linux. GNU/Linux wants you to use the shell and text centric workflows so lean into it.
It is easy to record the audio playing on the computer. I used to manually move cables from the speaker jack to the microphone jack to record audio. Now I can do it easily from the command line with arecord, as shown in the video.
Use a distro with BTRFS and snapper making automatic snapshots so you can boot into a snapshot and rollback in case something goes wrong. Saved me so much trouble and time.
In a terminal shell, if you want to do a recursive operation on dotfiles only, don't do `.*` -- do `.[^.]*` for example, and test with a non-destructive command like `echo` beforehand. Reason: `.*` includes `..`
