Matrix is a certified moderation disaster. The catlang community is bootstrapping one rn and everytime someone does something it just punches a new hole in the process of managing it.
This is just a fucking shitshow. "It's decentralized" does not explain why server wide permission management is so shit ass.
@neauoire no, no, no, no Devine. This isn't about the bridge. This is about the fact that like, people on the instance can create spaces the server owner has no power to control.
Like, the fy channel that just got made, neither I nor Boonie could step in and do any moderator activities. In fact, Boonie doesn't even know a room or space got created on his server ๐

i wish physical media for PC games would make a comeback. there's something really fun about going to cashies and browsing through a rack of cheap old games, picking one, bringing it home, popping it in the xbox 360/PS2/etc, and having instant access to a game you now own forever. maybe your parents are driving from perth to melbourne and they want to buy you a DS game you can play for the next four days while you're on the road with no internet.
you have a lot more freedom with PC games -- mods, downgrades, save editing -- but unless the game you want is on GOG or itch, you can't just buy and own a game. even with GOG/itch's DRM-free downloads, you still need to download something.
optical media sucks, i know, but couldn't we have read-only USB sticks or something? can't i have a shelf full of my favourite games?
the last time i used a physical PC game was fallout 4. my mum got me a copy for my birthday, and it came in a cool box with a fold-out skill tree. i put the disc in, and after registering the steam code and inserting the disc, my DVD drive roared to life and the install progress bar flew along the screen!... right up to the 4.7GB mark, at which point it slowed to a crawl as the remaining ~25 GB downloaded over ADSL. i left the computer running and watched TV for the next eight or so hours.
the game used steam as DRM. i could play the game and even re-download it without the disc. the disc only sped up the installation (and now that i have home fiber internet, it would actually slow it down). the disc was useless for anyone who didn't own the game on steam. i couldn't lend it to someone or sell it later. it was even less "real" than a switch 2 game key card. a disc with a fraction of a game and a steam code that tied it to one account.
now PC games don't even have that anymore.
I'd love to see custom-designed USB sticks with the game burned on.
Can you imagine traveling to someplace new, and before you leave for home, pick up a game cooked up by a local to remember the place by?

They all voiced one opinion: "developer verification must be stopped"
