"These were not professional circles. You didn’t need a CS degree. You needed curiosity and stubbornness and a tolerance for reading things that were too long and trying things that didn’t work on the first ten attempts. The culture valued that and passed it down. … The knowledge propagated because the culture treated knowledge as worth propagating."

Also, even though sanxboxed, they are using the google play spyware instead of microg replacement. They should focus their resources on sandboxing microg.

Renewal of the UN Requires Investment and Democratic Reform
"A world parliament would shift global deliberation and decision-making beyond governments alone. But it can only succeed if its members were elected through genuinely democratic processes. This may explain the particularly high levels of support from respondents in autocratic states, who may view global democratization as a path to change at home as well."
Renewal of the UN Requires Investment and Democratic Reform
Andreas Bummel argues that reform of the UN requires democratic world governance and that research suggests support for it remains widespread.Global Policy Journal

@Aladár Mézga Some really great stuff is happening around the world, where young people are working hard to bring democracy to their countries. The Milk Tea Alliance throughout Asia is amazing! People in Madagascar are also rising up in constructive ways.
In the West we aren't feeling this because our media doesn't cover things like the massive strike that happened in India for instance.

As for the nation’s literature, Brandeis may have been the first .. to refer to the Constitution as a “living organism, capable of growth and adaptation.”“This approach allows the fresh context of the present to perform alchemy with the wisdom of the past, to offer new ways to make the law and faith relevant and responsive to present conditions,” he said. “Prophetic witness cannot set its gaze backward on a frozen history with an unrecognizable context. Instead, it faces forward, informed by the past, yet determined to bring back vision into the world in the present age.”
This no longer works, unfortunately.. how does the constitution change when it is effectively impossible to amend due to Constitutional Calcification .. only "interpret" through a ridiculously gerrymandered (thanks Mitch M) SCOTUS? infosec.exchange/@codinghorror…

The Environmental Reporting Collective (ERC) supports nearly 40 journalists working on how the energy and resource constraints in traditional tech hubs are forcing companies to look beyond the U.S. and China, pushing into countries with weaker environmental regulations and less public oversight:

With California's new age checking law coming into action in January 2027, there's a lot of discussion on how Linux distributions will be handling it.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)
Containers and VMs get created and destroyed every second and it makes no sense to have to configure each and every one of them for age requirements.
And that's just one use case I can think up, I'm sure there's others like dev environments, toolboxes etc.

in reply to Frank Aylward • • •@foaylward Maybe more people should think of computers as a set of games instead as a set of applications. Not everything has to be "productive", since if people don't feel any joy of discovery, things get boring really fast.
(At the same time, good user interfaces are more valuable than ever when systems are built up from hundreds of API calls to different systems.)
