I adore this comic by @elisegravel.

“So, yeah, YOU can be a scientist, too!” #science #art #education

Seven panel comic “Scientists Are People Too” by Elise Gravel.

Panels 1-6 describe that there are many kinds of scientists and they ask questions , make mistakes, need help, do ordinary things & weren’t always the best students.

Panel 7 explains all scientists are curious & like to learn about the world around them. “So, yeah, YOU can be a scientist, too!”

Explore ~14 billion years of time in this fascinating graphical summary of events from the Big Bang to the present day by talented artist Pablo Carlos Budassi.

Beginning at center of the spiral, every billion years is represented by a 90-degree stretch, with the exception of the last 500 million years represented as the last 90-degree stretch for greater detail. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/nature-timespiral-the-evolution-of-earth-from-the-big-bang/ #art #science

A graphical summary of notable events from the Big Bang to the present day.

A spiral starting from the center to the outer end. Notable events are annotated. Every billion years (Ga) is represented by a 90-degree stretch of the spiral. The last 500 million years are represented in a 90-degree stretch for more detail on our recent history. Some of the events depicted are the emergence of cosmic structures (stars, galaxies, planets, clusters, and other structures), the emergence of the solar system, the Earth and the Moon, important geological events (gases in the atmosphere, great orogenies, glacial periods, etc.), emergence and evolution of living beings (first microbes, plants, animals, fungi), the evolution of hominid species and important events in human evolution.

I deleted all of my art on twitter today, so now is an especially good time to start a trickle of old art from other platforms. Let's start with this old Artsnacks challenge...

The first in our series of social events for the project 'waking the land' saw artist Cróna Gallagher bring the spirit of a hare from Benbo Mountain into our space. The event led to a community gathering and a collective wake for the critter.

About 10 million years ago, Platybelodon, this delightfully ridiculous ancestor of the elephant, roamed Africa, Asia, Europe & North America. https://www.wired.com/2013/10/absurd-creature-of-the-week-spork-elephant/ #Art by Tomasz Jedrzejowski #science

In August we are launching a series of artist-hosted social events every Thursday evening. These will be part of the project https://waking.land/ exploring loss and 'grievability' through the nearby site of Benbo Mountain.

Each week a different artist or group will hold space, creating a social environment to consider different research topics related to the project.

The project is a partnership with the Glens Centre supported by the Irish Hospice Foundation.

#art #history: kate bush (born #otd in 1958) is someone i draw once a year - & i guess i've done trading cards this time. 😀
i love kate because she:
a) clarified her statement about theresa may
b) has been vegetarian forever &, in 1980, schooled delia smith about it
c) has donated to the hunt saboteurs
d) is in a complete league of her own

illustration of musician, kate bush, that i drew with digital pencil & ink tools. kate wears a mischievous face as she smiles directly at the audience. colours are pale blue, orange-pink & black. there's a segmented triangle in the upper left corner & three thin, black lines make a frame around the image. illustration of musician, kate bush, that i drew with digital pencil & ink tools. kate wears a mischievous face as she smiles directly at the audience. colours are white, orange-pink & black. there's a segmented triangle in the upper left corner & three thin, black lines make a frame around the image.

Science is for everyone, but not everyone can see themselves there.

That’s one reason I love this beautifully illustrated, FREE to download comic book developed by Flint teachers, artists & plant biologists. Through classroom modules w real plants, high school students learn how traits evolve over time through natural selection w characters who look like more of them. And that matters toward building a more inclusive STEM future. https://hioh.education/monkeyflowers-graphic-novel #science #art
