The Elixir shirts are on pre-order until the last of February. Make sure you get yours in the first order. It supports my wife's continuous efforts to enable my open source work. But mostly it's fun. I've ordered stickers so expect an Elixir sticker with every Elixir shirt ✨

Did you know red meat contributes up to 30% of agricultural emissions? It's one reason the ag sector is the 2nd-largest greenhouse gas emitter after energy. But not all meats have the same impact - on the planet or our personal health.

2025’s here, and these 6 Linux distros are ones you’ll want to keep on your radar! 💻👀

news.itsfoss.com/linux-distros…

in reply to It's FOSS

i absolutely agree with this list. I can't wait to get stable and fully featured wayland first DE in the highly optimized Pop_OS the same way I want to see the gnome and kde made in the way developers intended in the immutable package that will make sure people can rely on their system stability. But adding Ubuntu and Fedora in there seems kinda off - they arent as exciting as all previous points
in reply to It's FOSS

I think with Arch Linux deserves to be on the list:

1) Being in collab with Valve.

2) RFC for non-x86 architecture aka Arch Linux Ports: rfc.archlinux.page/0032-arch-l…

3) Being used more and more as a base. Example KDE Linux, SteamOS and more.

soo the new open source is closed source with added "will totally go open source after release, trust me bro"
in reply to Mlékař Dan 🦣

@mlekar it's hardware, releasing everything before they've even had a chance to produce it themselves would be idiotic

they're a business

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

well I don't think that anyone should market something as open source if it is not at the moment. Seems dishonest. Also what is the cause of secrecy there? It's just a rpi 5 with off the shelf display, battery and keyboard in a molded case.
in reply to Mlékař Dan 🦣

@mlekar it's not dishonest in any way if that's what they will do, you're arguing at something when they haven't yet done anything at all wrong, just chill jeez
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I dont want to be a dick, I have burned myself multiple times on various kickstarter projects and this one in particular rises just enough red flags for me to be vary about the hype, however I would love to be wrong - especially about this one.

I've used Vim off and on for years. Not that difficult to use. Only need to know a few commands to use it. Power users would need to know a lot more.

Huh. 🤔

I wonder if the President-elect knows that the Gulf's “dead zone” (an area of low or no oxygen that kills marine life) is currently close to 7,000 square miles (over 4 million acres of habitat) potentially unavailable to fish and bottom species.

"Dead zone" doesn't really have a beautiful ring no matter which nation it's named for.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

the kind of talk about expansion, ultra-nationalism, and blame of others has an unAmerican ring to it IMHO.

Nextcloud, this is kind of assholey. No, I don't "value low cost over root access to the machine." I value my time and my data. I don't have the knowledge to manage security threats to my own machine (therefore pretty much all of my family's data), opened to the Big Wide Internet, and I enjoy the fact that the environment (e.g., SQL+nginx etc.) is set up and managed by my host, so I don't have to become a sysadmin to have a low-budget, self-hosted dropbox.

*Edit*: Nextcloud has been great and also a huge hassle. Upgrading is always (ALWAYS) a multi-hour or multi-day process for me, and there are constant headaches with little things that don't work (e.g., authentication with my mobile sync app, for some reason). I'm already considering paying #proton for some stuff, so I think in about February, if I can't get my major NC hassles fixed, I'll just ditch it once and for all and use Proton Drive, which seems secure and easy to use, even though it's not #FOSS. I really don't have time to go get a second degree in systems administration right now.
