This is an amazing story historically, and scientifically. If it were printed out, I would call it a page-turner!

Against the odds, a tiny Icelandic town speaks of a local Black ancestor. Geneticists and historians combine forces to uncover the man’s eventful life.

A Trail Gone Cold

@Muse Absolutely wonderful. Unless you know something about your own genealogy and DNA, you're like a left blowing in the wind, not knowing what tree you come from.

in reply to Muse

Sadly, not all families are worth remembering by their recent members. Trauma from abuse often requires person putting ancestry out of their mind in order to maintain emotional well-being. Yes acknowledge the past, but then move foreward.

COSMIC Desktop Alpha Is Only Weeks Away!! #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/FoDBjLEsivQ
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I'm really looking forward to see what COSMIC brings to the DE-landscape 😃 I hope it's a silky smooth user experience once it leaves beta in the far future 😎
in reply to Brodie Robertson

Although I'm not a tiling window user PoP_OS certainly has that feature down better than any other DE. It boggles my mind that KDE or Gnome have never thought to try and implement similar functionality. It seems Cosmic's tiling mode has already had features added to what PoP_OS has had for 3 years already.

Oooh, is this new? (Rhetorical question - even if it is not new, it seems new to me!)
I really like how mastodon (in the version currently running on mastodon.social) explains how blocks work!

P.S. Obviously not blocking this particular account, used it as an example 😅

Good News, Everyone!
Canonical has implemented one of my suggestions after the recent crypto scam issue in the Snap Store. This is excellent progress and should be applauded. 👏

in reply to popey

@popey I don't get my head around why people are falling for these scams in the first place. Same for the current global theme issue with KDE. People don't read the instructions anymore and blame the OS, not the scam developer or themselves for being stupid and careless.
in reply to ⚝ Mirk0 ⚝ on Friendica (closing 17/07/2025)

People never read instructions to begin with, why do you think self serve checkouts need people there guiding users how to use them. It's easy to assume that everyone else has the same knowledge base that you do but that's often not the case if you're an experienced user

Irks me that now that inflation in the US has gone back down so many 'experts' seem to discount the fact that prices did not lower.

Anyone who wonders why people think the economy is bad when the stock market is great should think about this. (Also they should think about how little the stock market benefits working voters.)

Moscow concert hall attack

The questions I am asking:
Why and how did Islamic State attack a concert hall in Moscow?
Why now?
What is the full reason for Putin claiming the Ukrainians had a hand in this? Did he have a hand in the Islamist's attack within his own country? Is this to manipulate his people into more actively supporting his war?
Is there another reason? Did Putin have a hand in arming Hamas and suggesting a civilian target? Are perhaps Islamists unhappy that things did not go as promised?

None of what I am suggesting may be true. But, I do think it is worthwhile checking things out.

in reply to Muse

Knowing how our US electronic surveillence intel of terrorist groups works (my son is Air Force intelligence) and that that they were monitoring messages and other indicators that led to the warning a month ago that something with this ISIS group was afoot, it's possible we may learn more from those sources.
in reply to Muse

It was an ISIS attack on CHRISTIANS. The US warned Russia of the impending attack, even up to four days before the attack. Putin didn’t warn anyone. He rejected the warnings, then spun the information to inflame more hatred for the West and Ukraine. He will get away with his huge blunder that has to date killed 133 people.

re: fediblock post
what's wrong with nulled? I can't say I'm super familiar with them as I don't do cloud hosting for my instance at all.

I just discovered the panel colorizer widget, thought might suggest you to try it out if you want even more theming options on a panel.

I agree though, the way settings for both the panel settings and widgets settings is clunky, I dislike how there is a state where you can be editing widgets and not the panel, like just show me all the options when I enter edit mode on the panel.
