@nasser sorry, I'm not sure which part you mean? MK2?
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

Wow, what a great paper/thesis. It's so well written! Love the section on establishing trust. And the clear explanation of UXN/Varvara. And the timeout to do such a good "Brief Explanation of Concatenative Programming". And just the machine title "OK Computer". And of course the title of the whole thing - a masterstroke. As someone who has tried doing similar (albeit non-academic) writing and who will soon be doing more, I feel like I'm being shown how it's done. Very cool.

I need a little help please!

The RSS feed for my website is passing the online validators, but doesn't seem to be downloading to any reader. Can anyone help, maybe spot something that I am missing?

I update this XML manually, and just added one item last week which seemed to work fine then. I noticed today that the feed was not updating; to test, I changed the most recent post to today's date which is why it is not last week's.

@aderieg thanks for checking!

hmm, maybe something up with the two readers I was trying :/

Or maybe some cache updated after I was tinkering around earlier on.

Mastodon question: any idea why my notifications are stuck at 40? I've viewed them, scrolled through them, etc. - have logged out and logged back in - yet the number will not change or disappear.
in reply to Mark Hurst

I don't know why they'd be stuck but can you try clicking "Mark all as read" at the top of the notifications screen?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron ahhh that did it, thanks - I missed it because I didn't know the double-check-mark icon meant "mark all as read". but now I know 👍

Synaptic's great. I still use it, but was disappointed to see it's not available for Fedora.

IMO flatpak is all you need. I've come to the conclusion that immutable systems are the future for consumers.

PSA, Apple decided it is going to build the Mac Mini in the US, but @system76 is already building its mini Meerkat in Denver:)

Matrix is a certified moderation disaster. The catlang community is bootstrapping one rn and everytime someone does something it just punches a new hole in the process of managing it.

This is just a fucking shitshow. "It's decentralized" does not explain why server wide permission management is so shit ass.

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

@neauoire no, no, no, no Devine. This isn't about the bridge. This is about the fact that like, people on the instance can create spaces the server owner has no power to control.

Like, the fy channel that just got made, neither I nor Boonie could step in and do any moderator activities. In fact, Boonie doesn't even know a room or space got created on his server 😟

woah, ok, so the uxn thing I made is like that too? That's a bit ridiculous 🤦‍♀️

@tante's decision to block LLM scrapers is consistent with his own logic, but it ended up reinforcing the asymmetry between readers who are fluent in English and those who are not. This is not just an irony. The asymmetry operates across the whole of technology discourse. Whose viewpoint is set as the default? What social relations produced that default?」
- @hongminhee
writings.hongminhee.org/2026/0…
in reply to wakest ⁂

Huh? You don’t need an LLM to translate something. We had DeepL and Google Translate a decade before LLM was a concept. And what does it have to do with scraping? You just paste text into it or use a browser plugin.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron currently, both DeepL and Google Translate are 100% LLMs now. Before that they were using other types of Machine Learning architecture (that also used large datasets of translated language to do statistical analysis on)

@Friendica Support Gibt es Email-Domains, die vom Versand von Postings ausgenommen sind? Ich frage, weil ich der Versand an eine gmail-Adresse nicht zugestellt worden ist.
in reply to Gerhard Hallstein

@Gerhard Hallstein

i wish physical media for PC games would make a comeback. there's something really fun about going to cashies and browsing through a rack of cheap old games, picking one, bringing it home, popping it in the xbox 360/PS2/etc, and having instant access to a game you now own forever. maybe your parents are driving from perth to melbourne and they want to buy you a DS game you can play for the next four days while you're on the road with no internet.

you have a lot more freedom with PC games -- mods, downgrades, save editing -- but unless the game you want is on GOG or itch, you can't just buy and own a game. even with GOG/itch's DRM-free downloads, you still need to download something.

optical media sucks, i know, but couldn't we have read-only USB sticks or something? can't i have a shelf full of my favourite games?

in reply to Lynnesbian

the last time i used a physical PC game was fallout 4. my mum got me a copy for my birthday, and it came in a cool box with a fold-out skill tree. i put the disc in, and after registering the steam code and inserting the disc, my DVD drive roared to life and the install progress bar flew along the screen!... right up to the 4.7GB mark, at which point it slowed to a crawl as the remaining ~25 GB downloaded over ADSL. i left the computer running and watched TV for the next eight or so hours.

the game used steam as DRM. i could play the game and even re-download it without the disc. the disc only sped up the installation (and now that i have home fiber internet, it would actually slow it down). the disc was useless for anyone who didn't own the game on steam. i couldn't lend it to someone or sell it later. it was even less "real" than a switch 2 game key card. a disc with a fraction of a game and a steam code that tied it to one account.

now PC games don't even have that anymore.

in reply to Lynnesbian

while i'm griping about digital media... i wanted to buy a switch game for my sister's birthday as a nice surprise. it's digital only, so i went to the switch eshop and looked for the "buy as gift" option. there isn't one.
in reply to Lynnesbian

wow, fuck Nintendo. i'm glad i've never spent money on any of their stuff.
in reply to Lynnesbian

I'd love to see custom-designed USB sticks with the game burned on.

Can you imagine traveling to someplace new, and before you leave for home, pick up a game cooked up by a local to remember the place by? :blobmiou:
