Looking like the flow of history is going to be a step to the #openweb with the recent #dotcons take up of #activitypub this will push Twitters #bluesky to a “me to” project, unless they bridge to AP which they will very likely will refuse to do, like diaspora, the same #geekproblem motivation repeating itself.

We do live in instresting times, agen for #openweb tech and its social power.

😮

Wait. People are saying Meta's decentralized app will be powered by #ActivityPub, and will interoperate with Mastodon.

On top of it, it will be Instagram-branded.

Surprising. But again, I'll believe it when I see it.

@fediversenews

particularly valuable quote in there from @nilay_patel "all the action is on Mastodon. That is where the app developers are, the platform is accelerating, and the underlying fediverse boundaries are growing".

This, to me, is absolutely key. Many of the things that made Twitter, Twitter, came from the developer ecosystem - having a vibrant ecosystem around #ActivityPub, #MastodonAPI and #Pixelfed and others can be instrumental for future growth and diversification of the communities.

Yes #itWorksLikeEmail but still I really don't understand how #friendica works. For example on this thread https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-1163-e510-d442-32c014292555 the original post was sent to 103 remote servers, my friend digit@iviv.hu commented on it. My response to his comment was sent to 24 servers, but my response to my own comment was sent to 105 servers. I suspect him being on Diaspora* and most of my contacts being on platforms like #Mastodon than only support #ActivityPub has an influence here.

If I try to reference the same post from my Masto account, I thought it would look super weird, like I was talking to myself in a way that didn't make any sense, but I actually only see the OP https://hostux.social/@fu@libranet.de/109835482564374801 while when I search for my later comment I see it https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-2063-f7e8-a037-f64709822385 and the comment of my own I was replying to, but not the OP !Friendica Support

I’m lucky in my work to see firsthand the impact of what we do on systems and the people that run them.

We’re supporting @Mastodon through #FastForward because @Gargron, @renchap, and the entire #Mastodon team are doing important work and we want to help them scale it with integrity.

Well and it’s pretty neat to have a front-row seat (walk-on part?) to the revolution 😎 #TheFutureIsFederated

My "position" on #Wildebeest — and really all #ActivityPub software — is as follows: If it lets you migrate your followers in and out, sure, give it a try; If it does not, you should be VERY wary of using it for your important accounts.

Wildebeest does not let you transfer your followers to/from it, ergo it should not be used, lest you find yourself locked-in to Cloudflare's ecosystem forever. Whether or not you like #Cloudflare is irrelevant, you should not tie your fediverse identity to any company permanently.

It's very frustrating for me to see even large ActivityPub implementations that have been around forever not implement follower migrations. Even #Pixelfed doesn't (although I hear that may be coming this year). Anyways... I asked them if they might implement it, but I don't exactly have my hopes up. https://github.com/cloudflare/wildebeest/issues/238

lmfao, imagine thinking mastodon dot fucking social does excessive censorship
RE: https://mstdn.io/users/taoeffect/statuses/100636247630527679

Mastodon.social is the gulag of #ActivityPub.

Join you an instance that doesn't censor.

For people wanting some more information on NGI's involvement with #ActivityPub, this is a good starter: https://www.ngi.eu/blog/2022/11/24/how-ngi-supports-open-interoperable-decentralised-and-trust-based-internet-applications-through-fediverse-projects-like-mastodon/

Do you have an interesting ActivityPub-related project? The next deadline to submit proposals is December 1st - that is next week. And the best thing is: you can submit today!

Incredible talk about #ActivityPub by @rolltime. I used it as a podcast while setting up ActivityPub stuff on my micro blogging site, and I was really well informed & entertained.

Evan Prodromou, who helped inspire & create the #ActivityPub protocol that makes @Mastodon run, called this recent #Twittermigration a “tipping point”.

“I have not been this excited about federated social networks since we published ActivityPub. The shift has started. … We’re doing this. Don’t be on the wrong side of history.” @evan

My mother is _sort of_ on the #fediverse. Her #singer / #songwriter blog supports #ActivityPub, so you should all give her a follow!

@yo

She's even got a video up there from...well, I won't post the exact year. ;p

Matt Mullenweg (founder of Wordpress and current owner of Tumblr) wants to know how you want Tumblr integrated into the #fediverse (or #bluesky). Those of you who have Twitter accounts should go voice your ideas directly cause this will probably happen in the not so distant future (they already had a job posting listed last year where they were looking for #ActivityPub people)

Livestreaming people!

Do you want people on Mastodon to be able to follow your livestream and be notified when you go live?

There's a free open source streaming platform called @owncast which is also part of the Fediverse:

You can follow OwnCast streams from Mastodon, and a post will appear in your timeline when they go live.

For example you can follow music accounts like @live or tech & gaming streamers like @Hamish or @hatnix

Are there any developers out there interested in making a Film & TV review/discussion platform for the Fediverse?

Almost every time I've mentioned the Fediverse's excellent book platform @bookwyrm (https://joinbookwyrm.com) there have been people asking whether a film/TV version would be possible.

Does this sound doable to devs? Maybe it could use wikidata (https://www.wikidata.org) for film data the same way BookWyrm and @inventaire do with books?

If you know someone looking for new Fediverse ideas, could you pass this on to them?

Bonfire is a Fediverse project that aims to store your social data on a physical device that you own (for example a Raspberry Pi running Bonfire software). It will also operate offline if preferred.

It's still in development, but you can follow the project at:

➡️ @bonfire

The new official website is at https://bonfirenetworks.org

(It was previously known as CommonsPub.)

this might be one of the places where instead of promoting a few implementations by brand, it might make more sense to use a common fediverse approach, most of these use the Ostatus interaction endpoint anyways https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/represent-endpoint-for-remote-interaction/480/3
