We need responsible people to STOP pushing only #Mastodon as this is not helping, just look at the SPAM currently spewing from this process. With this mess we are building a codebase and an instance that are "too big to fail" this is absurdly stupid and not needed.

The solution to this normal issue is to shift focus to new potential outreach project to balance this shift.
Attacking and PUSHING back HARD at this change has limited and often negative effects.
Running tootctl accounts cull on 400k accounts takes around 8 hours.
Remove remote accounts that no longer exist. Queries every single remote account in the database to determine if it still exists on the origin server, and if it doesn’t, then remove it from the database. Accounts that have had confirmed activity within the last week are excluded from the checks, in case the server is just down.

I've only had one minor disagreement (in which I got called a #bigot because I was using the platform's #blocking feature to get rid of certain topics from my stream), but am genuinely super sorry to hear that @shengokai had such a rubbish experience. #SocialMedia is only as good as the people on it, and nowhere is going to be perfect (but it's up to us to support every space becoming open, welcoming & fabulous for everyone).
I'm also really grateful to the article for highlighting what @ntnsndr is up to. If I ever feel like I need a change from the most fabulous & excellent server I'm currently on, social.coop is worth checking out!
Final point, personally, I LOVE Mastodon. It's like the other platforms were back in the day before scale and algorithms got in the way. Interactions are more frequent, content is more interesting, and I'm inspired by the opportunities to rebuild a #SocMed environment around me & what I want, not what others think I should have. There are meany subcultures on #mastodon that have the idea that they are the ONLY subculture and everything they think is the big story of #fedivers culture. This is bad behaver and obviously not true.
What we do have in common is #4opens and a history of #openweb netticate. The rest is a point of view, valid for its group, but not the "big" story.
Good for #mainstreaming people to understand this healthy, but messy #open culture we have here.
The current lack of grounded thinking about BLOCKING and control is such an ant-social process, when we start to think about groups and trust this can take us back to the more “native” #openweb path.
