You know how there’s an Ubuntu edition targeted at Chinese users/market. What if there was one of those for California? Just saying.

A bit concerning for the company how much of the reasons were related to Fortnight. It can't be healthy to put almost all of your money on one pony.

Secondarily, lowering wages and raising cost of living is leading to well-known results. It's just, that, well...

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

So 20% of the company laid off.

meh...just another shitty billionaire doing shitty billionaire things.

what did you expect from him? To *not* suck people dry and throw them away?

Stop being surprised at this stuff. Maybe don't play billionaire's games instead. Then you can just skip the "betrayal and anger" bit when they fuck their employees over. Again. And again.

FOSDEM 2026 Blog Post

Hi everyone, welcome to the first but hopefully not last community update of the year. In this update we share what we discussed at FOSDEM (PinePhone 2, community editions, DRAM shortage), what we demoed at our stand at FOSDEM and details on the PineTime Pro.

Next month will have the main community update which we will do our best to push out (touch wood).

It was nice to meet you guys again at FOSDEM this year! And, even if we didn't manage to run a demo on the PineTimePro prototype, I had a lot of fun working on it while you were screaming "Hey Jarvis" every 2 minutes 😁

I suspect we will have two webs: the version controlled by big tech, and a much, much smaller version that is largely reputation based and is shaped by things analogous to webrings with discovery via resource lists.

Big potential plus: the corporate web will be a blend of saccharine content, ragebait, and dark patterns - so a subset of people will use it less and get outside more.

A systemd fork has set out as a fu*k you to age verification.
Good
Better: use a NO Systemd distro.

antiX-26 comes with runit, sysVinit, dinit,
s6-rc and s6-66

s6-rc my favorite, boot and shutdown very fast and reliable.

in reply to It's FOSS

yeah great, I think the correct response however is to start the arduous process of migrating away from systemd-only distros, because this most recent debacle has proved beyond a reasonable doubt that it is in fact cancer

I use OnlyOffice. I'm not a big fan of LibreOffice. That said, I am glad LibreOffice exists, and users should donate if they use it regularly.
in reply to It's FOSS

I think this is a good addition, as long as it doesn't popup every single time you open LibreOffice.

This AI Coding Problem Is Starting To Look A Lot Like Y2K... | Microslop Chronicles

Sam Altman stood in front of infrastructure investors and said AI would be "a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter." The same week, Amazon had a six-hour shopping outage tied to AI-generated code, after laying off 30,000 engineers and mandating 80% AI tool usage across their dev teams. And Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, published a study showing AI coding tools cut developer comprehension by 17% with no meaningful speed gain. _This is what the "intelligence as a utility" vision looks like when it hits a real engineering workforce.

who in the fuck set up fediverse.org?

"Fediverse Consortium is organized as a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) on the Ethereum blockchain"

in reply to wakest likes your bugs ⁂

I guess someone saw the domain was available and saw an opportunity to do a crypto scam. What can one even do if "fediverse" isn't a trademark?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron I sorta don't think this is even a crypto scam, I think it might actually be someone here who thinks they are "trying to help" and are very misguided

A man used LLMs to generate hundreds of thousands of "songs", then used bots to stream them billions of times, to collect $8m in royalties. justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/north… Is there a better metaphor for late-stage capitalism than burning resources to make songs that are never listened to, then steaming them to robots that will never hear them, ad infinitum?
